Coach Search Options after Autry

Devo would bring in the most capital? How?
It's a joke. My point is if gmac brings in more money I'm all in on him vs any other coach listed that we still have a shot at. Gmac is a good not great coach that will get the kids to play hard. He's solid and maybe with the right financial backing will be successful. If he is this place will explode.
Money matters in sports and business. Name one coach that we have a shot at that can win with lets say 60% of the NIL that Gerry would have.
12 million gmac

7 -8 million ( name the coach)

I'm betting on the money.

70 ppg. Mid range shots!!!! Yay!!
To play devils advocate, Pitino St John's team wins games the old fashioned way. Though the most common way to win is playing modern basketball based on analytics (3s and at the rim) or very sophisticated set offenses.

They scored 81 a game.

They were third in conference. When’s last time we were top 6.
Considering he played most of the season with 8 scholarship players, 7 the last 3 weeks, and they played a harassing type of defense, I dont think he had any choice but to play a slow paced offense. But they had a lot of movement, not standing around waiting to hail a cab like SU.

I would have liked to see his offense in January and February if they hadnt lost so many players by the end of December.

There seems to be an assumption that an outsider couldn't raise funds at SU - how would anyone know? It has literally never been tried!! And it seems to work ok at just about every other school in the country.

Also, why do people suggest SU is broke? A simple google search shows the endowment is $2.1 billion and increased 10% last year (that's $200 mil increase in one year).

Where is gmac getting 12 mil from? Dunder mifflin?

This is a Syracuse board. What happened in Kansas is not relevant.

You really have to have been here to understand the visibility Juli had for a couple decades.

No matter, BH is not coming back. Let’s focus on candidates who are still possibilities.
Jim and Juli were lightning in a bottle as faces of the university and pillars of the community. That probably ain't happening again.

Yeah they have a lot of talent and are good at what they do, but they do take mid range jumpers and have some iso packages for guys including for Zuby in the post. I don't know if Gerry is getting that level of talent if he comes here though. It's also a style that is very Big East. The ACC is a different game.

I would be happy with this, if this is the eventual outcome. Skinn can coach.
few things:

1 - gmac being reds assistant in the only year red did an almost okay job (year 1) - i dont think it was a COINCIDENCE! i think gmac left bc he did the heavy lifting year 1 without the credit, knew red cant handle the job, got out to prove himself and prepare for this moment...

2- i think hiring a semi-competent coach that can handle proper subbing patterns, in-game adjustments, who can actually strategize, talent id, and installing offense and defense more advanced than aau pickup ball...WILL DO WONDERS FOR THE PROGRAM...like lght years better than recent teams

3- the bar really isnt that high for someone to come in and turn this thing around...if you disagree, I think youre underestimating how bad red is as a coach. look at how lousivulle turned things around after kenny payne got fired. red is kenny payne. this isnt the apocalypse. it can turn quickly.

4. can the new hire get a 1 year deal? i think gmac would do well here...he turned around 4-28 Siena (siena! ffs) but he cant turn around his alma mater??? i dont buy it. give him 1 year and assess from there

5. if im gmac, i say no now...let the program fall even further...then kill it at a better school than siena...and watch how SU comes begging and gives him anything he wants...

6. i dont know who these candidates are well enough to say who the next coach should be, but i think a lot of them could do well here

Again, my guess is they are directing most of the revenue sharing and most of the NIL fund raising to football. I could be wrong but that seems the only way we can be so cash and NIL poor for mens basketball.

I do think it would be a hard sell for the first year frankly.
And without enough NIL the first year, you arent going to get top and even middle of the road coaches.

Yeah it costs a lot more to field a competitive football team. I wouldn't be surprised if Kentucky spends less on basketball this offseason, still in the top 5 nationally, but more in the 15 million range vs 22 million. Focused on better roster construction.

You can’t use endowment money for athletics.

I think (no confirmation) that SU might be concerned over the girlfriend’s age, that she was apparently a student when they started dating and that they (again apparently) have a kid and aren’t married.

Colleges these days are all about appearances and avoiding scandals.

I believe he was what we were looking for and we are what he was looking for. The only reason it didn’t happen was that he failed the vetting process. It is the only thing I can think they would explain this sequence of events.
The’re is no way this is true. If so we are not interested in successful sports.

I think George could be a fine enough starting PG in other situations but without much motion in our system, we were asking our ball handlers to be able to break their man down off the dribble and that's not really his game IMO.
Definitely some truth to that but I saw enough from George this year to last a life time. I think his basketball IQ is low. A lot of poor decision making on the court. Dude shot 29% yet heaved up almost four 3's a game. No thanks.
