Coach Search Options after Autry

I think (no confirmation) that SU might be concerned over the girlfriend’s age, that she was apparently a student when they started dating and that they (again apparently) have a kid and aren’t married.

Colleges these days are all about appearances and avoiding scandals.

I believe he was what we were looking for and we are what he was looking for. The only reason it didn’t happen was that he failed the vetting process. It is the only thing I can think they would explain this sequence of events.
Best poster ever on this board, but that is irresponsible conjecture. And I am not one of these rabid Hodgson-or-die posters. In fact, I could give two ships about him to be honest.

This whole situation makes less sense by the minute. I don’t understand how we went from Hodgson being a done deal for the past year to bringing in GMac so we can also grab Ryan freaking Blackwell. I also don’t understand the whole “none of the players have offers except Nait George” Colgate doesn’t want Donnie Freeman? I’m assuming what’s really happening is those guys aren’t being offered comparable money at the p4 level and are hoping Cuse will keep the gravy train rolling for them.

Finally the talk about Hodgsons fiancée is bordering on weird/creepy. If someone sounded the alarm on him because of her then they didn’t really want him to be the coach here in the first place.

There seems to be an assumption that an outsider couldn't raise funds at SU - how would anyone know? It has literally never been tried!! And it seems to work ok at just about every other school in the country.

Also, why do people suggest SU is broke? A simple google search shows the endowment is $2.1 billion and increased 10% last year (that's $200 mil increase in one year).
Here we go again…

I do think it would be a hard sell for the first year frankly.
And without enough NIL the first year, you arent going to get top and even middle of the road coaches.
So donors have to already know the head coach previously? I don't agree. I realize CNY is tight-knit, but when a big name comes to town, the dollars will roll in. It happens everywhere.

you think red and gmac are the same caliber of coach??!

really???

you think red wouldve gotten siena to the NCAAT? like for real?

i'm not saying gmac is a slam dunk hire or anything...but equating gmac and red is "so dumb" and I cant beleive a real person would think like that

Yes the same results neither are going to work GMac currently isn’t a good enough coach to win at the P4 level so throwing money at him will end same way One can be better than the other but the results are going to be the same because neither should he coaching in the ACC at the P4 level

This is really good analysis

Might as well put card board dummies in every seat. With what we’re hearing, why should season ticket holders “invest” in the program when the University is unwilling? It’s ironic the chancellor, on a whim, can hire another athletic administrator for seven figures and then have the cajones to cry poverty.
Because NIL doesn't come through the chancellor or SU. This has been covered over and over. It comes through donors not touching the University in any way. It is an "off campus" function, off staff, off anything directly touched by SU. The AD is paid by the university. We are looking for NIL funds. Also trying to keep revenue up by having the dome filled, but most of our revenue goes to football. We need BIG NIL basketball donors. Technically off campus all together, but slightly on campus by just building relationships with those who could donate, and not alienating them. But Haynie can not "get us the money".

UGH. Now that I have read more posts I have to edit this to explain ONCE AGAIN, that our endowed funds are irrelevant to this situation. They are not generally available for this purpose. I am not going to give the whole example again that I gave earlier today, but rest assured that how much money SU has does not matter here.

I know it’s just talk from chancellor saying we want to be a big time athletic program and stuff like that but, Bulldog04 telling us that info tells me we are a sinking ship. My question is guys like Donnie gonna stay and get paid the same? And are we likely to have less than $8 million?

Ideally if Gerry were to come to Syracuse from his current roster, the following I think could be on an ACC roster:

Gavin Doty
Francis Folefac ( I think Bulldog04 was commenting on his frustration with #11 during the final, well he actually rates as Siena best defender and is only a freshmen)

That's it.
Folefac would never get a shot off inside against the ACC. He got half his shots blocked at the rim in the MAAC.

This is a Syracuse board. What happened in Kansas is not relevant.

You really have to have been here to understand the visibility Juli had for a couple decades.

No matter, BH is not coming back. Let’s focus on candidates who are still possibilities.
Just a ridiculous line of thinking on your part. But living in the past is what Syracuse does best.

But agree that it's time to focus on other candidates. Hopefully their families pass the vetting process.

This is a good call out, I’m curious how the chancellor expects us to be a big time athletics program if the financial resources aren’t there.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on your basic points about Gmac's offense at Siena. But I doubt Gmac, of all people, would back away from the three-point shot if he has players who can make them. My guess is that would be a huge portal priority if he were to become the coach.
i don’t think shooting percentage or the type of shots you take is dependent the level you play at.

I've had the tv on a lot today while following this thread, I've been quite productive. Every time I see Syracuse as the #9 seed against whoever it is (women's side obviously) I have a sense of nostalgia which turns to sadness which turns to anger. Man I miss the days when I would fill out brackets and clear my Thursday and Friday of the first week. Those first two days were my favorite days of the year.

Kinda like the DO leaked story on Lykes HR complaints so her AD candidacy would be tubed.......

Seems to be going around or maybe, what comes around goes around.

They might not have heard from anyone because no one has entered the portal. With what’s happening in football, maybe they don’t want to be accused of tampering.

Fran was an outsider. He seemed to have success fundraising right away. Not buying that only a local can raise money from this community.

I think Micron in the future. While it has been discussed that they are not sports minded in their giving, I believe that can change because it would be "community based" and eventually when Micron is up and running they will want all kinds of good community relations. Also individual executives at Micron might come to fall in love with SU sports. But Micron is not ready yet as a source. They need to be primed.

So to summarize, the university athletics/NIL situation for basketball is so dire that the only way to field and competitive/upper level basketball team is to hire Gmac with money(hopefully) that was earmarked for Hop? Also, Gmac is the only one who can connect with local businesses to solicit NIL.

In addition to $$, Hodgson was flagged(and not offered) by the university because he had a child out of wedlock. Those two reasons are wild. What is happening?

Also, Bobby Hurley is getting an interview. Vomit.
