Just because it was reported he said no once, does not mean we did not counter or that more stuff is not going on behind the scenes.

I might be talking crazy, but hear me out. What's stopping local government from funding NIL? Whose to say that Onondaga county couldn't pay SUMBB 1-2 million to use them in Visit Syracuse advertising and having players show up to events.

At first glance this seems like a waste of taxpayer money, but what's the loss of tax revenue to the county when SU isn't drawing people in to see games? There's fewer people getting hotel rooms, eating out, going to the mall, buying merch, etc. . Can the cost of the NIL contributions be justified by the value SU athletics brings the county in those revenue-generating areas?

Nothing, but I imagine there would be a lot of outcry from tax payers. Would be easier if the funding wasn't directly from tax dollars but you're right, you could message it as a supportive campaign to drive an ROI. You'd have to message it the right way.

If he goes to say, Georgia Tech and makes them a winner, would you be able to stomach that? Would we as a fan base be able to stomach that?

I'd be fine with Gmac winning somewhere else if we're winning.

If we make a boneheaded hire and he wins elsewhere...well that's just another kick in the shorts but shouldnt drive the decision. Cant let fear guide our decisions.

Locked on Syracuse made a great point last night. If this coaching search happened 10 years ago, we wouldnt even have been looking at a Hodgson. We would have been plucking p4 teams for coaches and looking at the Jay wrights of the world. I need a hug.

That's not true at all. We have never ever sniped P4 coaches ever. Even if JAB had choked on a meatball and Hop got ran over by a truck at the top of the summit we still would not have sniped another coach like Wright. I'm not saying we would even look in house, but never has that been the case.

And for the record that guy was in middle school 10 years ago and was hyping up Will Wade for Autry's replacement last year.

Yeah, I'm starting to call bullspit on NIL suddenly blowing up the deal after they've been working on this hire for a year. This was fallout for Lally's scuttling Carparelli. The football posters can post whatever they want to try and make people think it wasn't.

Let me ask the everyone a common sense question . Do you really expect Gerry to be Red and not succeed just because Red didn’t? Gerry is a better coach than Red

I personally think we all knew Red prob wasn’t the guy from the start and I know everyone is pissed that he was the choice but it’s done and Gerry is different . I think the consensus is Hop is not it either .. no disagreement there .

To me Gerry has shown nothing to doubt him and could be the same as BH or Murray or anyone of these young up and coming coaches

Your attitude of "football posters" is the problem with Syracuse.

Too much fighting about what is the premier sport at Cuse.

We are ALL one team and we can't have success without the other.

I have to imagine they all own/run businesses where having Duke basketball players show up to internal events or dinners with clients is worth it too. You get 10 who are willing to give $1M a year or 20 at 500k a year and you get dinners with the coach, private things with players...probably half are in NYC/Silicon Valley and a smaller group in the NC area and it sells itself.

Honestly, the "exclusive" part is probably part of the intrigue.

I imagine once you get a stream of lottery picks coming, this is much easier as well.

Hard to sell “exclusive” dinners/events with our rosters. Maybe Kiyan if his dad shows up.

That's all we need it for right now. Football gets most of the rev share and has a healthy NIL pool for this year because we've had other people running it. We are not resource constrained in football. We have enough to compete in the top half of the ACC.

Seems like it's also alot easier to get money together when you have the best recruit we've ever had in the modern era in 5 star Russell and learned our lesson on the QB room.

If GMac is the guy on the flip side, the complete overhauls and modernization we are discussing around how the business of SU athletics has to come with. If BB announces its Gerry and announces that an entirely new model is being established to promote organization, maximizing NIL and the other 10 things we have listed out then I can swallow Gerry as the coach. I won’t be excited over what we are getting offensively but if we are kicking out the pathetically antiquated disorganized business model and replacing with what is 5 years past due, then the things needed to win are going to be a priority and that means whoever the coach is and the staff must fit into that business and the respective goals.

If the GMac decision is just the Hop alternative to get all the money for NIL but nothing else changes then…

But the Hodgson game does seem to leave one unfortunate take: Syracuse basketball is not the big deal it once was and many seem to think still is.
It appears to be just another major college coaching job.
Nothing special.

It was an NIL issue. Hodgson was on board. The SU side just doesn't have its shhit together.

I’m sure this is not allowed but can NIL be attached to ticket sales? Every ticket includes a $3-5 or whatever NIL surcharge going directly to a collective. 18-20 home games, get back to averaging 20k a game and boom, there’s another couple mill for NIL purposes. Who cares what the NCAA says, they’re feckless.
