Coach Search Options after Autry

My only question on him is can he coach out east how would that transition work but is record and accomplishments are really good
In prior days that would be a concern, West to East, but recruiting is no longer relational its transactional now

I looked up athletic department revenues and expenses on the ACC wiki site. It was enlightening, but confusing at the same time. According to the 2023/2024 numbers:

Syracuse was #3 in men's basketball spending, #6 in football spending, and #10 in women's basketball spending. But, Syracuse's athletic revenues were #16. As a % of revenues, Syracuse is spending 60% on football, men's basketball and women's basketball which is much higher than the other ACC schools: Duke 39%, BC 41%, Clemson 50%, Cal 43%, Louisville 40%.

So, it looks like, at least before revenue sharing, Syracuse was emphasizing the revenue sports. But, it seems like Syracuse doesn't have as much wiggle room to increase spending on the Big 3 sports given they already make up 60% of athletic department spending. Revenue sharing must be really pressuring the AD budget.

NIL is the new issue and it has to be the "support" issue everyone is talking about. With the leadership transitions going on at Syracuse, it might be hard to get everybody aligned about what Syracuse needs to do to boost NIL opportunities, but hopefully that is what Blair was hired to do. BTW, did anybody watch the NCAAs last night? Multiple commercials (Invesco QQQ, Turbo Tax) involving UConn basketball players. That is where Syracuse needs to get to with NIL, but probably it has to start locally.

A smedium private school in the Northeast trying to compete at the highest level of college football is a fool's errand (ducks)
In the 5 years the basketball team has missed the postseason, the football team has made 3 bowl games, one of those being a 10th win just two years ago. I don't understand the mindset that winning 6-10 games a year in football is some impossible task.

Yet it’s football that provides the revenue for everything basically. Look at UConn, going great guns in basketball yet their athletics department operates at a significant loss. Conference revenue is peanuts compared to ACC. They get away with it because they have the state behind them.

Mind sharing a cliff's notes summary for those of us who didn't see it?
Super impressive. He had notes, but I'm not sure he looked at them once. Commands the room. Got emotional talking about his parents. Respects the past, but wants to build on it, not wallow it in it. Modern AD, and knows the challenges, but also the possibilities. Ended trying to get everyone on the same page, moving together in the same direction. I'd highly recommend watching the replay. I think a lot of concerns that have been building in this thread will be calmed a bit.

It will not be calmed until he hires outside the family. I have heard talk before but action speaks louder

Does spending include the value of scholarships? Because SU at $75k vs Clemson at $20k for in-state will skew the rankings.

Can you share the site you're referencing? I'm not sure I buy those numbers but would love to see.

correct and there's not much complaining in CT about the athletics budget the way there is in NJ. Largely because it doesn't take as much to win in basketball but more importantly, because they win. Uconn has built a successful basketball brand and the state has capitalized on it. They love their basketball capital nonsense. I expect you'll see the benefits from it in terms of student recruitment over time. Tons more little kids wearing Uconn gears these days in the state than ever before.

I am 80 pages back. At this point I am sure they will hire someone before I get to the end but I am dead set on finishing this thing! This is like when you DVR a game and try to avoid catching the final score. Excited to see how it ends!

When does the SyracuseFan collective start? Look if we each find 3 friends to donate and they find 3 friends to donate... We can really fix this thing!!
That was my posted math question last night. How many $44 donations does it take to buy the 6th man off the bench.

JB needs to go sit down and be quiet
i don't think he was saying what some think. he didn't say the hire had to be gmac or hop and in the family. he's basically saying they shouldn't be excluded because they are in the family. he made it clear the hire needs to be the best coach they can get.

Even if what you were saying is accurate (it's not) that was in regards to football NIL, not bball. There was no grand scheme to ensure Hodgson was the coach here starting last March, that's all twitter rumors and nonsense.
And that’s the problem. There was no plan even though anyone who knows the game knew Reds third yr would be another disaster. This university is so blind.

Well the in-family hires aren't the best coaches, so if he truly feels like we need to hire the best coaches, then he should stop talking about in-house candidates because they aren't the best options.
