We certainly don't strive for just bowl games, that's why Dino was fired after a 6-6 season, just pointing out that the basketball program hasn't been "competitive" in p4 basketball for a decade at this point. Both teams can be good with the right support, hopefully Blair can right the ship financially.Keep in mind I’m not Syracuse football fan so my expectations, wants, etc are different but why would any p4 program strive for bowl games in 2026. That’s not competing in big boy p4 football.

Really disappointing what he's starting to represent; he just can't help himself.JB is a legend but it's time to enjoy retirement, he's not helping matters at all.
I love how this dude said he is not a Syracuse football fan, but just hoops. Support both buddy, if you want to make breakaway and not be in a conference with LeMoyne...so sickening
I’m hearing some reports coming in.
Lemme get this straight, trying to sort through these carrier pigeon notes.
81 South is backed up cause Adam Weistman is rolling up 81 in a WW2 tank.
Aparently he has a go orange flag waving on it and a GMac cutout standing in top of it.
Hearing he’s playing puff daddy and Big mo money mo problems.
And someone said they saw him drinking fireball outta a handle.
And he has screamed “YOUR SAVIOR HAS AREIVED!” about a dozen times.
You don't think people on the basketball board are aware of that? That's kind of the whole point of hiring a new basketball coach.just pointing out that the basketball program hasn't been "competitive" in p4 basketball for a decade at this point.

He is top of the list for meHiring Phil Martelli Jr. would give Syracuse basketball a head coach with a strong blend of player development, program-building experience, and deep roots in the Northeast basketball scene. His teams emphasize toughness, discipline, and efficient offense—traits Syracuse has needed to regain consistency. Just as important, he understands the demands of running a program, not just assisting in one, which separates him from many candidates. Growing up around the game under his father, Phil Martelli, he brings a strong basketball IQ and leadership foundation, but has also built his own identity as a coach. His familiarity with recruiting in the Northeast and his reputation as a relationship-builder would help Syracuse reconnect with key pipelines and re-establish a strong, sustainable culture.
I'm talking about the other guy that said was not a football fan budWhat are you even going on about? Who said I wasn't a football fan? I am in every single game thread for both basketball and football, and watch every game. I give money to football, not basketball.
Report came in from Nerlo Rangel he’s still supporting the cause sir!I appreciate the entertainment value you’re adding to this thread.
It really annoys me how the national perception is mostly framed by his comments over the years . Shame when its extremely exaggerated, has bias or flat out wrongJB is a legend but it's time to enjoy retirement, he's not helping matters at all.

Correct, but no one is saying it's a "fools errand" to try to compete in p4 basketball. All I'm saying is both teams can compete if Blair gets the NIL train humming. Saying we can't compete in football because we are a northeast private school is old-school thinking. You don't think people on the basketball board are aware of that? That's kind of the whole point of hiring a new basketball coach.
Football has been within a win or two of the ACC championship twice since 2018 . How close have we come in hoops… I love both , my point is it’s all about spin. You know what other school has been to three bowls in the last five seasons? Rutgers. BC has been to two.

The 2024 football team was playing at a top 5 team level by the end. They were that good. Unfortunately, had a few bad losses to keep them out. This amazing Miami team last season that is helping them vault into a new level almost didn’t even have the opportunity to play in the playoffs.Football was the best team in the ACC by the end of the 2024 season and 2018 gave Clemson its hardest game of the year, and that Clemson team should be considered an all time great
because a program doesn't need the same resources in basketball like they do in football. JHC, just the scholarships for football cost the AD $7-$10m a year. Basketball costs $1m.Correct, but no one is saying it's a "fools errand" to try to compete in p4 basketball. All I'm saying is both teams can compete if Blair gets the NIL train humming. Along with 4-5 other schools at the same time. What'd that get anyone? The head coach fired at least once and an infusion of NIL and other funding so that the team could be flat out embarrassed last season. I get it, some people really love college football, but it's not worth the outlay if it doesn't allow the basketball program to do anything but recycle former players as head coaches.Football has been within a win or two of the ACC championship twice since 2018
