Coach Search Options after Autry

Gerry system is simple: We will outscout you, my guys will outplay you, and my players will have just as good fundamentals as yours. Probably in the 99th percentile of coaches when it comes to getting the most out of his players, it's a skill that is natural and can't be taught. He is a unique talent, I've known this, I didn't expect it to show up on a big stage this soon. He's ready.
Just for the sake or argument, was this all true when they lost to Fairfield by 14 just a few weeks ago?

I had also heard, take it with a grain of salt, that he was still upset that SU never even considered hiring him when they hired Red. It is my understanding that he was flat out told Red was the hire and no one else, including him, would be considered. So, it would be understandable considering the animosity that he will get from some fans, that he would say the hell with it and just stay with Siena for next year. He has a great recruiting class coming in.
But maybe that changes with a new chancellor and new AD.
I have heard that as well

Amazing how quickly things change when NIL is involved. NIL giving is fueled by "right now" emotions and mentality. This is what happened with Kyle McCord a couple years ago.

The "family" and some people behind the scenes seem to be very excited about Gmac right now. They have money. Under normal circumstances, the person in charge of hiring would wait and make a rational choice. When someone flashes millions in front of their face, they need to act swiftly and decisively. It will be interesting to see how Blair handles this.

Yeah and we are at a disadvantage because time is not on our side some of that highly self inflicted.

Now we're in the middle of a national search
like when they hired Autry. They gave a courtesy interview to Ed Cooley and went with Autry.

This national search is being the same way. Hodgson was the prohibitive favorite, but people were posting a ton of different options to consider. But it came down to Hodgson and the Lallys versus JAB and other boosters with Hopkins or GMac. And here we are.

It’s funny how picky some of the fans are here. Beggars can’t be choosers.
I hate to put this in print, but (we) fans aren’t choosers.
One big thing that’s hard to figure out is what kind of NIL support can we get with a BH , PMJ non family hire vs say GMac? It seems JB has some influence over that which sucks because that means bias is a real possibility if not reality. Is there enough that could be built on put together in just a few weeks with BB and everyone working the phones like crazy ?
Last time JB has no say in who they hire.

Any team can have a great half against a superior opponent. Some can even have a great complete game and that's when upsets happen.

But hiring a coach to rebuild a program based on someone's opinion of one half of basketball is insane.
To be fair, people are judging Gmac on what they have seen of his competitive spirit and how quickly he turned around a 4 win team. The last two games solidified those thoughts. It's not like Gerry McNamara was a nobody before today.

I’m fatigued over the new head coach discussion. I’ve been beaten into submission. Just give it to GMac and let’s move forward. I’m convinced he can’t do any worse than Red or JB’s last 5 years at the helm.

At least Gerry will bring a level of passion to the job. That’s been sorely missing over the past 20 years. Guy’s a fighter. There’s something to say about having that unsung attribute.

Pitinoesque

So what is a real scenario then? What’s clear is the challenge of how much money for everything , NIL included for different candidates. I’m not saying what’s right or wrong I’m just saying it seems clear from what’s been shared there is a gap between what might be available right now that could be higher for GMac.

You are so hellbent on an outside hire you aren’t seeing the forest through the trees. You are hardly getting this from someone who’s cheered on hiring GMac too. Just look at my post history.

I would take certain coaches at the 8-10 million dollar range over GMac at the 10-12 million dollar range.

Like I said ealier it doesn't matter anymore because once JAB got involved calling everyone dumb and running his mouth it was always going to be Gerry then. I think if they lost by 30 today it wouldn't have mattered once JAB got involved it was over for outside hire, regardless of what anyone says.

someone posted that we interviewed Bobby Hurley. maybe Dickie V is on the search committee

that would put Syracuse at $17m for a team? So, figure Gmac brings Doty and Folefac, that leaves about $15m for portal guys?

Yes or even let’s say the 9 million we had this year 14 then total for that matter..

Especially if it is coupled with millions in NIL.

The general feeling has been that while we had about 9 million this year, all in, that was a one shot deal and it would be tough to match that this year.
