Coach Search Options after Autry

Any team can have a great half against a superior opponent. Some can even have a great complete game and that's when upsets happen.

But hiring a coach to rebuild a program based on someone's opinion of one half of basketball is insane.

Siena was a 28 point underdog given literally no chance to win by anybody.
You can talk about poor second halves all you want but they lost by 6 to the number one team in the country. And led up to the final few minutes.
That only happens with good coaching and players who buy into what he wants.

I get it that many on this board are frankly horrified about hiring another JAB assistant.
It is like they are diseased and they fear they will infect Syracuse and destroy our team.
I doubt few would feel this way if Red had just been a decent coach and not this coaching disaster.
So, to them, they dont want to believe their eyes that maybe there is a decent JAB assistant out there who can coach.

They just want an outsider to exorcise the demon ghost of JAB.

I dont give a flying flip what offense our new coach runs, I just want us to win.
And certainly not have a coach who gives up before the ball is even tossed!

I was willing to accept BH but he didnt want us so good riddance.

And I want someone who has had some success as a head coach, no assistants for me.

like when they hired Autry. They gave a courtesy interview to Ed Cooley and went with Autry.

This national search is being the same way. Hodgson was the prohibitive favorite, but people were posting a ton of different options to consider. But it came down to Hodgson and the Lallys versus JAB and other boosters with Hopkins or GMac. And here we are.

Stop spreading crap. If you read these posts you will have 100% seen other names interviewed. I stand by my comments that BH was not the top choice and it was LM or another midmajor coach. Even now you see national media folks mentioning this.

You will also see in posts from insiders here that there were interviews happening this week that even major donors were not made aware of.

I had also heard, take it with a grain of salt, that he was still upset that SU never even considered hiring him when they hired Red. It is my understanding that he was flat out told Red was the hire and no one else, including him, would be considered. So, it would be understandable considering the animosity that he will get from some fans, that he would say the hell with it and just stay with Siena for next year. He has a great recruiting class coming in.
But maybe that changes with a new chancellor and new AD.

Because I don’t think that 3 days of great basketball in a small conference tourney justifies skipping over many more qualified options u should try. Siena won the conference tourney they were not the regular season champs, they actually finished 3rd. Today they did great but still not a hire I think is deserved

I would congratulate Martelli. and I don't care if he does or doesn't. If he gets the job at the Cuse, great. It's just that so many bowed down to BH, who I wanted as the coach. I bought in to it. But I never put Gerry's coaching down like others have here. But who did South Florida beat this year, who exactly this year? South Florida looked totally unprepared today. I can't imagine what would have been said if Siena looked like that against #1 seed Duke.

He's coached one year for High Point, went 30-4 won the regular season, conference tourney and beat OSU today.

The general feeling has been that while we had about 9 million this year, all in, that was a one shot deal and it would be tough to match that this year.

In that regard if we are stuck at like 3-5 million and can’t get what we need then it probably doesn’t matter all that much who is coaching.

When he is offered, he will 100000% take the job. JAB involvement recently made it a sure thing it will be GMac.
