Coach Search Options after Autry

Not saying he’s a bum. But he has had only one good season. Not ready to accept that he’s a wonder boy.
The people (not just you) saying Gerry had only one good season are missing a lot. He rebuilt a terrible team, bereft of talent, and got them to 14 wins in his first season. He recruited Doty, found some D2 people that could help and really changed the culture. Anyone that folllowed Siena during Gerry’s first season would call it a major success.
You can back anyone you want but it’s not right to say he only had one good season. Is he as good as Schertz? Maybe not, but he has had two good seasons and has proven he is a good coach right from his start.

You guys ever watch The Curse of Oak Island?

That's pretty much what this thread is. Some tidbits here and there, wild speculation, and a few posters stoking the drama even when there is nothing actually new to contribute.
i've been watching that show for years...and it's the most annoying show on TV. But I can't stop. Barely anything happens and they appear to be making fun of us loyal watchers with the voiceover...but I have to watch JUST IN CASE. Half the time I fall asleep but don't miss anything.

Give the admin credit (so far). Look professional. Above the fray. PC for one, and maybe it isn't their fault and just the agent's, but looks desperate to prove their worth.

I've said it and will say it again. For coaches of a certain age, which pretty much everyone in our target market it, SU is a premier brand with an unmatched facility. A coach worth his salt sees that as extremely, extremely attractive with no more than a handful of other jobs being able to match. All subject to sufficient funding of course.

I think JW's professionalism comes through here. He is a long time successful exec and knows as well as anyone the value of SU BB. This isn't football. We can be a selector. And I think he expects us to be. And he has laid that foundation for Blair to capitalize on. Collaborative effort.
He's too professional at times. He doesnt play the media game, which matters to the casual fans. Unfortunately you have to manage the fan base these days. You dont have to leak names but you see how much of an impact Thamel's interview has on the temperature? Little things like that go a long way...Even BB saying the other day, dont believe everything online or we haven't been turned down help. It's unfortunately several days after the narrative has been set though.

This thread is so crazy that even when I wake up to take my nightly 3 am pee I’ve missed 7 pages since I went to bed at 11.

My take is that Gerry has the job and AD (no more nickname policy in effect) is doing the perfunctory duty of interviewing others or checking on others even if they aren’t available. Dasher I’m sure is right but I think the die is cast.

If you want to start on the wrong foot don’t hire the hottest coach in the country who happens to be a local legend. Mac is the anathema for local malaise. He may not excite the nerds on here but we are a loud basement minority

School needs a national interest enema.

Get ready for Gerry

I haven't watched it since probably 2020 or so, but there was one episode where they were talking about finding evidence of cork oaks (Quercus suber) having lived on the island. Yeah, um... no. They are basically subtropical. Maybe you could grow them in some sheltered areas on Long Island in the present day, if that.

It was complete bunk and the show was never the same for me after that.

If you took blind resume 37-30 with 8th & 3rd place finish and 1 MAAC championship would he be on your list? I love Gerry - all time favorite player & Duke game was excellent showing but your selling nostalgia not the best coach available imo.

Best coach for Syracuse at this point. That’s my criteria. It’s like Arteta coming back to Arsenal. Prodigal son returning following a legend. Not straight line analogy but Mikel and Gerry are similar to me. Passion personified

Morning all, who is ready for another doozy of a day? Cause I sure am. Put on the readers, stretch those fingers and get ready to scroll.
My carpal tunnel and arthritis has been awful. Lowering my salt intake to address the need to scroll without pain.

Great interview with Pete Thamel just now on WAER. Says finances will not be an "inhibitor" for Syracuse job. Described NIL situation as "upper middle class" in ACC but that could change quickly and go higher. Said sitting Power 5 coaches have expressed interest.
General question: assuming the new large influx of NIL actually occurs, is it because:
1) boosters were not a fan of Autry, so they left him hung out to dry.
2) boosters are aware of who the new coach is going to be, and are excited to contribute toward that coach’s success.
3) boosters now have an understanding of what’s needed to be a top 20 basketball program, and are stepping up, regardless of who the new coach is,
4) New or recycled boosters have come in and are looking to make their mark.

Thanks. I’ll hang up and listen.

A lot of that is because of some structural problems in how we go about NIL (IMO) and because we didn't have a bball collective in place. And because results have been bad. Donors and businesses don't want to back losers.
That’s a good way to frame it. We've had multiple bad years, and money doesn’t show up when you’re losing. VC/PE/donors all behave the same; capital follows winners.

When times are bad, no one’s returning calls.

GMAC creates hype and get things moving. If he wins, it becomes a flywheel.

Add in a new AD who’s entrepreneurial and willing to sell any and everything (naming rights, etc., in a good way), and there’s a path back.

I was at Tampa also sporting Cuse gear. You didn't ask me, but the candidate would have to be real and spectacular for it not to be Gerry.

well the good news is you could watch it next week and have missed very little. and what you did, they'll recap about six times during the episode.

I kind of think it’s already over based on Thamel, at least locally.
I thought I caught up with everything and checked Thamel's twitter feed, but can't find what he actually said. Can someone resurrect that info for those of us who dared to go to sleep last night.

SUADBB is connected to the Templars. Today on SyracuseFan: How does this effect the coaching search... and does this hint at even deeper mysteries and additional candidates?
