Coaching changes...

might be time to tell the ath dept so they can fix the web site and the directory info

Two out, if morrison is in...who is going to be the other?

Marrone on Axe: Both Conley and Brumbaugh under contract for now ... they're free to pursue other opportunities, and they might take off-field positions within SU, but they will not be on-field coaches next season.

On the Axe Man Show Marrone says he's Special Teams Coach,To me that 's disturbing. I was the #1 Gung Ho Guy from day one for HCDM but with the loss of Conley and Brumbach and him as Special Teams Coach:oops: He's losing me. BE HEAD COACH NOT O.C.,NOT ST'S , BE HEAD COACH

There are numerous head coaches that have gotten great results being coach of STs. Coach P was one of them. Beamer and Schiano are two more. It's not an unusual arrangement.

I got a little bombarded for making this same claim the other day... I think he needs to be sitting in a box evaluating everything all spring... not on the field coaching a unit...

While I love Conley, Morrison would be a great add and a definite upgrade, at least in terms of experience.

Yeah, I'm not too crazy about this arrangement either.

My hope is that he's using himself as a placeholder (for the spring) until he can bring in a WOW hire...

Surprised they aren't bringing in another coach.

I kinda get the feeling HCDM can't be removed ring leader coach that delegates all... he wants/needs to be on the field doing "hands-on" coaching in some respect...

If so, then the ST position might be a good fit...
  • It's not rocket science.
  • It's about motivation and getting execution from young and developing players
  • It will give HCDM a hands-on view of player development for the young guys...
That said, this works if

a. he's good at it

b. he can do it with negative impact on any of his bigger responsibilities as HC.

Obviously, a and b worry me... but time will tell.

Special teams practices in its own section. He won't be missing any other parts of practice since all the players are usually drilling special teams. You want him to sit in a box evaluating an empty field while special teams practice? I don't think people know how practice works.

? When you are at work does your Boss come down and do your Job? :bang: If he can't hire someone who he feels ihappy with he should not be HEAD Coach . One minute he's O.C. the next ST'S Coach. I know how practice works The Man in charge delegates authority to the one's he has put in charge of their units.

do we not have the money to hire a st guy?
again i ask-if he didnt have the time last year to be st coach, were does he find time this year?

if he did have the time last year What did he have st by committee ?

can he do what crazy bob who was a st coach couldnt?

Ilove the CEO nonsense.. What is that? Marrone is the HC, its his arse he can coach whatever the he wants, obvioulsy he sees it has important because he just put himself in charge of it. How do you know it won't improve.. Wait for results then bitch, if he sucks I will be right there, but at least give it a chance. I don't think the offense will suffer without Doug as the OC

Im not a big fan of Doug having direct responsibility of any unit because he needs to focus on all but i do agree if there is one unit that he has to coach i guess specials would be it. Cant be any worse and maybe the last hire is a great recruiter who is a better fit at another Unit say TE or QB . At least it will have attention last year and we can expect some improvement

Specials involves six units...KO, KR, P, PR, Ex PT O, Ex Pt D. Seems like a lot to undertake. I would assume he will have position coaches lending a hand regardless of titles.

Really? Special teams is maybe 20 minutes of practice each day. No purpose to hire a ST coach. Waste of time.

Two words - Frank Beamer

Sorry I should have asked you if I could have an opinion before I posted.

Anyone else? Is there a still a wow hire?

Could be. One has passed us by while another is still a possibility. Marrone as ST was also another. Morrison was not.
