Cool uni!
Cool uni!
I don't know that turning down that an OC or DC job for a position coach in the NFL is all that out of the ordinary. It probably comes down to your career goals.
I thought that too but then I got thinking that this is about as good as they could do. Flood will be gone next year, this is a temporary hire for the one year. They will bring on a new coachAnd then roll (literally) right into the HC job when they fire Flood next year.
Not trying to troll, but how would anyone know about Lester. He's a former D2(3?) coach who coaches QBs for a team that struggled with QB play for the better portion of the season. Are you implying OC in the MAC or similar level non-FBS?
Wanted that last shot at MarylandGreat news about Daoust! And I too thought the Fridge was retired for good. Shocked he would come out of the good life of retirement to go to Rutgers.
I agree and predict that Lester will be a HC at a P5 school some day. I also worry about losing Lea...hopefully he sticks around another year or two.He was a pretty successful HC, where I want to say he also called the plays? He has been killing it on the recruiting trail. Also with what we saw from Hunt his last 3 games, if he continues to develop like I think he will, it will only enhance Lester's resume. I could see him eventually being coveted as an OC for some midwestern school. Just my opinion though

This gives them the leeway to pull a quick hook on Flood and give Fridge a tryout for the remainder of the season with no strings attached. But could he effectively recruit under that scenario?I thought that too but then I got thinking that this is about as good as they could do. Rutgers can hire me. I'll do either one. It'll cost them though.
Daoust and Lester will be very coveted . The longer we can hold onto them the better

Has a coordinator ever succeeded a fired coach? And Im not talking about a coach in waiting where the HC is forced into retirement? I mean if a coach is fired, the general consensus would be a poor season right?

I think Lester is our OC when GM ends up leaving. Which you would think would happen before Lester goes anywhere.
Agreed. Her work at Maryland flagged her as the worst athletic director in the history of organized sports. It is truly amazing the damage that Debbie Yow did to UMd athletics when you examine it closely. She couldn't get on with Gary Williams and forced him out. She completely bungled the Friedgen/Franklin coaching succession plan and lost them both. Neither program has recovered from those blows. On top of all that, she led a disastrous campaign to renovate Byrd which put the AD up to their eyeballs in red and led them right into the hands of the B1G. It is stunning to me that she got an arguably higher profile job on the back of all that carnage.
surprised that Angelichio turned the job down
Agree 100%, If you watch Lester on the sidelines, ( before he went upstairs) He has an extremely calm presence about him, always positive, teaching. You can tell he has the presence of a HC/ OC type guy. He will not be a QB coach at Syracuse for more than another year or two. I see Lester as the OC when GMC takes off and a MAC HC in 5-6 years easily. He is going places. He also has HC experience already which is very important.
That said, maybe he becomes Shafer's long term wingman if he gets paid well. I think we all can agree that George won't be here longer than 2-3 years, it's what he does. I have to imagine coaching for Shafer doesn't suck. If they can figure out how to pay a few key guys maybe they will stick around
These guys are 'boys' right? Hopefully they've got it set up where when the OC/DC move on to their head coaching positions or coordinator roles that Daoust and Lester move up. Then eventually someone takes over for Shaf when he wants to move back to the prairie - though part of me thinks he can get this program to a level where there will be no reason for him to leave. No idea if this is the plan, but it strikes me as a good one. Though I wonder if our DC will really be in enough demand to make the time-line work.surprised that Angelichio turned the job down
