Coleman will visit OSU this weekend

I still think OSU may be his choice because he sees Sullinger and is like that could be me

OSU can promise him a starting spot as a frosh. JB can't make that promise

I had felt for a long time that DC would have committed over the summer if he was coming here. A week or two back it seemed like perhaps I was wrong & the tide was turning back to us in his recruitment.

However, as another poster has conjectured, his absence from MM says a lot & probably, in fact, says it all.

I would be shocked at this point if he committed to us.

If he goes elsewhere, I could care less whether it is Ky or OSU.

While, I will, of course, wait until it becomes official. As with any recruit that we lose, I would not particularly wish him well or poorly. I will simply not care and move on.

I think the kid is doing a good job for himself - evaluating what is best for him. He is taking a hard look a 3 excellent programs. Whichever he chooses it will be the best choice for him. We have kids on the line that could be just as good or better should he choose to go elsewhere. I still think that he is a Syracuse lean in a tight race with OSU. Personally I think Kentucky is a longshot

He would also start at UK as a frosh

I think its between SU and OSU. The fact that he didn't commit while at UK MM is substantial IMHO.
Didn't he say he would announce in early November? Couple more weeks and we may know...

For what it's worth, I've heard that Ohio State coaches haven't felt as good about their chances as they did about a month ago. I'll echo that I've also heard Syracuse and Ohio State are out in front, but again, I think the OSU coaching staff feels they're behind in the race.

First, I don't think it says anything at all that he did not attend SU's midnight madness this year. DaJuan had already made a commitment to Kentucky to attend their event well before the Legends game was dreamed up. If he would have cancelled just to attend the SU event, that would be kinda a move. (Although we would have loved it.)

I think the fact that DaJuan is only taking 3 official visits (instead of the max of 5) is another good thing...If I were pretty sure I was gonna sign with the hometown team, I would prob set up a couple other visits just to make sure I'm making the right choice, but 5 visits would not be needed.

And lastly, I think it's a good sign that he said recently that he will decide in early November. DaJuan has never seemed rushed in this decision, and for awhile I thought he may wait until the last few weeks to make a decision. But maybe with SU having a decent shot at Nerlens Noel and the rumors of Noel possibly reclassifying to 2012 has made DaJuan a little nervous about his spot at SU...and thus, the announcement that he would make his decision in early November.

Of course, this is all just my "homer" view and I could be very wrong!

I don't think his absence from SU's MM says anything other than he's already been to 2 SU MM's and would like to experience others. UK's MM is a huge event every year. I still think he's coming to SU but if he doesn't I won't mind. I do mind that UK and OSU are his other 2 choices. My hatred of those 2 programs (and coaches) can not be underestimated.
I think it shows some smarts for him to "see the world" a little bit before committing the next couple of years or so to a school. I will note that to the UK fans DC is an after thought. When I talked to a couple that were at MM they said, "Oh yeah that's right he was there, he was the big fat kid right?" Ouch! On UK's Rivals BB recruting page there is not one mention of DC. They list 10 players they are recruiting, DC is not on that list (probably because it stops at the #23 player and DC is #27). I'm sure Cal wants him but not if he can fill up on higher rated players. OSU scares me more because of the PT issue others mentioned. It is not realistic to think that any of the Fab, Baye or Rak group will be leaving after this year though it is possible. If we get him great! If not, oh well, move on to the next.

Despite all the UK talk ... OSU is what scares me most. Just get that vibe when I hear DC talk about that school.

However, as another poster has conjectured, his absence from MM says a lot & probably, in fact, says it all.

I think that is totally wrong. If you are a big time basketball player who grew up in Syracuse you've seen plenty of SU bball, and MM is once a year. If you really are 'keeping your options open' you aren't going to spend that one day in the place you already know literally everything about.

So would we rather get DC2 now or NN next year? I have been big for DC2 the whole time but this is one of those rare situations where SU may be better off losing this one. NN might well be far better.

I say NN. He reminds me alot of Alonzo Mourning. Not saying he will have that kind of impact because in this day and age he'd probably only stay one year. But he possesses Alonzo's defensive skills.

Remember ... if only briefly ... if Noel stays until 2013 in Tilton he will be eligible for the NBA draft upon graduation (unless the NBA passes the 2 year rule). He will be age eligible and he will be 1 year beyond his graduating high school class. If I am wrong please correct me (Ican deal with it) but from all that I have read he would be NBA eligible and a definite lottery pick.

So as they say (or not) ... don't count your sheep before they're fleeced.

No, you're right. We may be recruiting him all for not when it is all said and done.

Actually the NBA wants to make it 2 years out of school in the new agreement.

I read that somewhere last week, but cant find it right now.

I say a bird in the hand is always worth two in the bush. If DC wants to come, take him and figure out how it impact the Noel recruitment when this season is over.

Although, I don't see how JB will work out the playing time among all of the bigs that will be here if DC comes, but first - its not my problem, second- its a great problem for JB to have and third - maybe its not realistic to think of DC as a one year - must play 30 mpg freshman year kind of player.

The "woe is us if we don't land DaJuan Coleman" perspective is a little screwy, IMO.

At what point did this kid turn into the 2nd coming of Ralph Sampson, or Ewing, or heck even the 1st DC?
I don't wanna denigrate the kid cause its not fair to him, but all the angst about what/where/when/how on his every move, is really unbecoming for a supposedly mature fanbase like Syracuse's.
He's a good player, who would be a good get, & who just happens to be a local product. What else about DC is so compelling that we have these predictions of doom should he go elsewhere? Is he the next Melo...did I miss that memo?
Can someone please enlighten? :noidea:

Actually the NBA wants to make it 2 years out of school in the new agreement.

Billy Hunter recently stated the players have proposed a rule similar to MLB where players could leave out of high school, but if they stay, they'd be forced to remain in school for three seasons. I think the owners prefer 2 or 3 years straight up, but there are some advantages to the plan set forth by the players in that the kids that come straight out of high school would have a lower rookie cap and would be under teams' control for 6 years (as opposed to 2 or 3 years for guys coming out of college).

That is a fair and measured post.

I agree, with the caveat that I hate anything to do with John Calipari and wish professional ill upon every member of his program. So I hope Coleman does not go there. But best of luck to him elsewhere.
