Coleman will visit OSU this weekend

Billy Hunter recently stated the players have proposed a rule similar to MLB where players could leave out of high school, but if they stay, they'd be forced to remain in school for three seasons. I think the owners prefer 2 or 3 years straight up, but there are some advantages to the plan set forth by the players in that the kids that come straight out of high school would have a lower rookie cap and would be under teams' control for 6 years (as opposed to 2 or 3 years for guys coming out of college).

Wonder if they're truly proposing a rule similar to baseball..... where a player is eligible to be drafted at those junctures without having to do anything e.g. declare eligibility and/or give up amateur status.

I think its really funny how everyone runs around making a show of trying to help kids determine whether its in their best interest to enter the draft. If they really wanted to help them the NCAA would change the rule that makes a player ineligible to return once he is drafted.

That is an excellent proposal. An improvement for college ball and the NBA, and not too bad for the players, either.

Calamari would have a fit with that one ... imagine no more one-and-doners. My question is relative to the phrase, " if they stay". Stay where? They could go on to prep school. Yes? Of course they wouldn't stay there for 3 seasons ... but then they would have 2 seasons in the NCAA. I'm not sure how I feel about this ... sure we would be eliminating the one-and-doners (usually the top 5 stars) and that would be OK ... but are we diluting, to a degree, the quality of basketball ... never mind I don't know what I'm talking about here.

Not just sullinger but Oden not to long ago as well.
Still its the name on the back of the jersey not the front in that instance. We got what we could of out of AO and Rick Jackson.

JB and Bernie have been coaching bigs for 30 years at syracuse.

While we were fine in 03 without the beef in the paint people don't realize how huge Mcneil was against Auburn on both ends (and I am not talking about the press).

This would just make high school kids more appealing to GM's if you can pay them less and control them longer than college players. Then most of the good players won't go to college.

I'm not sure that's the case. At the end of the day, there are a finite number of spots available and I don't think too many executives are going to stock up a bunch of 18-year olds that won't be able to contribute for 3-4 years. I think you'd see 8-10 guys go pro each year, but the rest would have to go work their craft in the NCAA for 3 seasons.

Kinda agree. 8-10 out of HS is more than we used to see but you wouldn't see kids leaving after their 1st and 2nd year so overall less out of the same class would be in the NBA before 3 years. It would also mean better depth of quality college kids in each draft which in turn would reduce the number of HS kids drafted.

Though many NBA teams draft on "potential" as opposed to proven ability or skills. If these kids enter the draft out of high school expecting to be drafted then so much for their college careers as well. There will be a flood of "potential" NBAers overseas.
