College Basketball apparently not dead??

If we had the program we had a decade ago I would be as tuned into college hoops as I was a decade ago. The whole nil thing doesn’t help, but again with a good team I would take the time to learn their names and games each year. Sport is fun, march madness is peak fun… but it takes a lot away when your team stink.

i gave up on the nfl for the 15 years they wandered the desert… but now that Josh is there, I watch random games without the bills again In addition to most bills games and I follow relentlessl.

Between Syracuse not being involved and the teams changing over every year, I have definitely watched the Tournament significantly less in recent years.

Tru dat!

As much as many of us loathe the runaway train that NIL is in its current state (truly pay for play), along with the transfer portal and complete disarray it has brought, if Syracuse hoops was not completely irrelevant nowadays, most of us would still be tuning in in the same manner as we had for years.

I dont think this comparison is apples to apples year over year. I think this part of the article should be taken into consideration...
"Of course, the record-setting viewership figures come with the significant caveat that this is the first tournament Nielsen has measured using its updated out-of-home methodology. The new methods cover 100% of U.S. markets, up from just two-thirds of the markets under the old system. That discrepancy is more than enough to account for a low single-digit year-over-year increase as we’ve seen this season."

I am glad the numbers are good.
As I get older and more crotchety, I have less patience watching the final minutes of close games not involving Syracuse. Timeouts and commercial breaks after every possession just make me choose to watch something else.

Being retired, I watched non stop from noon everyday until late evening. A lot of good basketball.
I’m not retired but I took some time off to do the same thing.March Madness and especially the first couple of rounds are my favorite sporting event of the year.

I like trying to get calls right, but the monitor has really become an overused crutch.

I admit, I barely watched, but maybe I'm just not the target audience anymore and thats ok?

Clearly despite everyone saying college sports is dead every year, it's not. I'm sure CBS and Turner are thrilled
Wow , I thought the games have sucked ( admittedly some of that is SOUR grapes ) for the most part, few big upsets ,only a few buzzer beaters , lot of chalk ( I don’t consider 7-10 , 8-9 outcomes upsets . Maybe I’m just out of my mind because the fing SEC is taking over hoops too now !

The KenPom Top 8 have the chance to all advance to the elite 8. Would be an incredible elite 8 if so

Duke
Houston
Florida
Auburn
Tennessee
Alabama
Michigan State
Texas Tech

15 of the Sweet 16 are within the top 24. 16th is Arkansas at 36
Personally would prefer to see some long shots in there, guess it’s just me.

Just like every year since I graduated college I took vacation days on the opening Thursday-Friday of the tournament and watched all of it.
As did i. Its a complete no brainer and i dont get the hate

Wonder if more people working remotely from home rather than being in the office and add the large boomer demographic now retiring or already retired also must have an effect on viewership. I used to bring into work a radio that broadcast tv games to listen to games while working. I never played it loud but it was the only way to know what was going on - never could watch it on a tv during my work days unlike now.

i watched it all. Its the tournament. Suck up your stupid pride and watch the best sporting event on the planet
I'm with you. Watched a ton. Still enjoy it, even with us not in the mix.

I do wonder if Sankey will win the battle but lose the war.

With 7 of the 16 teams remaining coming from the SEC, decent chance that we end up matching '85 with 3 SEC teams in the final four with an outside chance at all four.

If, going forward, the tourney effectively becomes the SEC Invitational, I know I would have much less interest.

I used to laugh at how people just happened to appear in a break room at near the end of a close game. What a coinkydink

Good point. I had a couple of channels on in the command center, i.e. my boring relatively small home office with 2 monitors.

The reviews are absolutely out of hand.

NBA got rid of the reviewing every out of bounds in the last 2 minutes and it’s so much better.

I get it -- but the ncaa tournament is one of the worst ways to determine a champion in sports lol

and i love that -- but your body of work throughout the season is almost meaningless in march if you have an off night
