There is a tangential discussion on another thread about coaching trees.

I find this overall tree quite interesting. Going way back, Phog Allen has the most impressive tree. Dean Smith, Larry Brown has massive trees. Now this tree includes assistant coaches, some other coaching trees include players as well and in that case, guys like Steve Alford and Isiah Thomas would fall under the Bob Knight tree.

Also interesting is JB, in this tree he is all off by himself digging his nose LOL, with Rick Pitino being the only branch of worthy inclusion.

Bob Knight is another one with only Mike Woodson and K, but K has a large tree all by himself. Now Bob Knight also had Bill Parcells under him as an assistant in the Army when he served as both linebacker coach and assistant basketball coach for 4 years. So Knight has a large branch on the football side.

They did Boeheim dirty with that photo. It’s funny his coaching grandson, Mick Cronin, is known today for complaining in press conferences, kind of like a JB special back in the day.

besides the obvious pitino , only asst coaches i can think of that really made an impression are ralph willard and tim welsh . boeheim was always a bit of an autocrat. unwilling to share the reins. how else do explain bernie fine riding shotgun for 35 years ?

Actually if you look at all the photos I think they looked for bad photos of all of the coaches. Look at bob huggins and tubby smith their photos are also not their best look in fact all of them look like a bunch of angry screaming lunatics. The black & white photos are more respectable most likely those were the only ones in print back in the days.
