College Football

I think the transfer rules help us. There are only so many minutes and tons of guys sit on elite factory two-deeps and there are a lot of g5 stars who wouldn’t make the two-deep at factory schools but think they can hang with them.

The new transfer rules actually give me the most hope
So in the 1st round of the last draft, 20 of the top 32 players came from a factory school, which I define as, LSU, Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Auburn and Oregon. This new transfer rule will push that statistic to 30 players a year that come from the same 5-6 factory schools (maybe the 6th school is a rotation between a few).

I get the it’s irrelevant for a Syracuse because of where the program currently sits compared to the rest of college football but it’s a barometer that illustrates the gap that exists. And if a Syracuse does find such a player that would be a 1st round pick, what’s to stop another school from trying to poach that player? Especially if that player still plays for a program that has the Pinstripe Bowl or equivalent as its ceiling?

I used to get a red zone type college show on Saturdays with Verizon from 3pm til midnight but it was replaced by the ACC network. It was awesome.

I remember that. I was always annoyed that it didn't start at noon, but yes, it was good.

I too am getting tired of college football but dislike college hoops even more with the one and done’s and all the other NCAA bulls@*& such as UNC, KU and AZ getting away with violations while we get nailed. Even though the Cuse is and has been bad for so long, I still root for all the service academies, especially the Black Knights of Army.

Patience grasshopper. Kansas and Arizona haven't gotten away with anything yet. They still haven't answered their Notification of Allegations nor had their hearings yet. I'm not betting my next house payment on their getting smashed, but they haven't gotten away Scot free.

So Ohio State, PSU, Michigan, Texas, USC are not “factory schools?” How about FSU? When did they stop being a factory school?

SU has been to 2 Final Fours, a Sweet 16 and an Elite 8 in the last 8 years. How long has SU been bad?

Does anyone else find their interest in college football deteriorating?

Not at all. I love college football and just can't get enough of it. A college football Saturday is basically my favorite thing in my life. I think the sport is better now than it's ever been.

For me personally, it's my interest in college basketball that's deteriorating. I live and die with every SU game as usual, but I used to watch tons of college basketball and would watch every Big East game I could get my eyes on. Now I honestly don't care about anything that doesn't involve SU.

I hoping this true. I remember hearing yesterday during the bc game that the qb said when he transferred he did not care about the brand compared to when he committed out of high school.
Transfers could really help SU if Dino makes an asserted effort to get kids. He has been snake bit with eligibility but that does not matter under the new rules.
We will loose some players but I do not see anyone getting playing time leaving.
My personal feelings is that all remaining scholarships should go to transfers with maybe one or two jucos.

I see this also. I remember when you use to see players from very small schools getting drafted early and having great careers. It seems like the nfl is getting star struck with ratings instead of properly evaluating talent.
What I find interesting is the number of these players from the factories that end up being busts once they get to the nfl.

I watched zero college football yesterday. Didn’t miss it. I would think I’d be their target demo. Not a good sign

How many guys are stuck behind those draft picks, stuck and waiting for their chance? Not wanting to leave because they don’t want to sit out a year?

These schools recruit over good talent every year. What can we do to be the spot they choose to land?

Hot Take-How Dino handles the new Transfer rules this offseason makes or breaks him. he could either take advantage of it and fill a few holes or we could theoretically lose a bunch of guys (or both for that matter). He needs to re-recruit our guys and then go out and be aggressive to get another ready-to-play QB to compete, as well as a couple of quality guys on both sides of the LOS. These can be guys stuck behind really good guys at top schools who want to play or top G5 guys who want a chance to play at the highest level. He also has to decide if Cavanaugh is the answer or if he can find someone with a better proven track record there.

Not at all. My college football consumption has always been high. Have a couple of tvs with it on all day and different Sonos zones playing a side game or two around the house. IMO it's great to have as atmospheric background as well as whatever game you are watching.

If anything, what has been going away for me is college basketball. I watch anything with SU with the same conviction as I ever have in my life, but I haven't watched any other college basketball for a few years now. Whether it's the one-and-done or the level of play or life in general, just don't have the interest in CBB like I used to.

But College Football...look forward to those Saturdays all year long.

Does anyone else find their interest in college football deteriorating? Excluding Syracuse, the interest in college football for me peaked in early 2000’s and has declined since to a point where I watch about 3 minutes of non-Syracuse games each week.

I think it’s a combination of the corrupt NCAA and the gap in competitiveness between the factory schools and the rest of the country. The gap in resources between the top echelon and the rest of the league is unlike any other sport. Thoughts?
I typically only watch big games. I watched ND - Clemson. I'll watch Kansas - Gonzaga when college hoops starts up.
Most of this is simply a function of time available to watch games plus the fact that I also enjoy watching the NFL, soccer, lacrosse etc.

I find college football easy to watch. College hoops is harder. The game is junked up and the stars are generally the coaches now, not the players. No more Coleman or Laettner types in the game.
