I decided to add up the numbers from the hard-to-read box scores that appeared on Syracuse.com. I had to get Italians translations for some of the categories: PP is turnovers, PR is steals, SF is blocks and FF is fouls committed. The box score for the last one lacked minutes, blocks and fouls so those stats are four three games, not four. Here is what I came up with. The stats are minutes/seconds played, two point shots made and attempted, three point shots made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, turnovers and personal fouls

CENTERS
Bourama Sidibe 67:15 13/23 0/1 8/19 34p 48r 1a 4s 10b 5to 8pf
Jesse Edwards 52:45 7/14 0/1 5/8 19p 18r 1a 1s 5b 4to 12pf

FORWARDS
Quincy Guerrier 78:31 16/19 3/10 6/13 47p 38r 7a 3s 2 b 4to 3pf
Elijah Hughes 70:48 10/18 11/32 5/6 58p 16r 10a 11s 1b 5to 4pf
Robert Braswell 60:52 7/12 3/8 3/3 26p 19r 2a 4s 1b 5to 3pf

GUARDS
Buddy Boeheim 57:24 1/5 10/32 7/8 39p 11r 2a 4s 0b 4to 5pf
Brycen Goodine 56:09 5/9 7/24 3/4 34p 12r 11a 6s 1b 5to 4pf
Joe Girard 52:08 1/5 11/25 5/7 40p 4r 5a 5s 0b 5to 6pf
Jalen Carey 49:43 15/23 1/5 4/5 37p 15r 15a 6s 1b 5to 1pf
Howard Washington 34:35 1/4 4/11 0/2 14p 6r 8a 4s 0b 4to 2pf

Comments: Sidibie’s impressive performance is the #1 story. We don’t know who our point guard is but we have plenty of talented candidates. I want to know what we’ve got at center. Sidibe looks good except at the line. Edwards has a way to go but 19p 18r and 5b in 52 minutes is pretty good. Guerrier isn’t tall but seems like the definition of a power forward. Hughes is a scorer but showed a productive all-around game. Braswell’s minutes were interesting and the quality of his play was strong. I don’t think he’ll be glued to the bench, as some thought. We’ll see how many minutes he gets when Dolezaj can play. I think the minute distribution of the guards will hold up. Each is different and each can play. I suspect Washington is a break glass in emergency guy but we’ll see plenty of the other guys.

Is this the only box score for game 4

I love these combines stats to put a snapshot on the trip

I was putting this game 4 box here to help me figure out approximate minutes as the main stat missing for game four to add to the four-game is minutes for sure

There were no official stats kept for Game 4. Donna had to keep stats by hand.

And they played 8 minute quarters instead of 10.

Washington looked more than serviceable to me. His stroke looked very good from deep, and he has a solid handle. Not a bad guy to have if we need him.

Obviously small sample size, but some Per 40 Minute numbers as well as True Shooting Percentage...

Edit: One last note that I thought was kinda interesting is the astonishing 3 Point Attempt Rates for some of our players in these games. For comparison, Buddy Boeheim led the team last year with just over 70% of his shot attempts being 3 pointers.

In the Italy games, we had 4 players clear that threshold: Buddy at an insane 86.5%, Girard at 83.3%, Howard at 73.3%, and Goodine at 72.7%.

Thanks to you and @SWC for doing this.

Yes, Sidibe's numbers are astonishingly good. Across the board. Even his fouls were way better than expected.

It looks like Brissett's biggest weakness, his true shooting percentage, might be Guerrier's biggest strength.

Love Hughes's steals. Not loving his rebounding.

Carey's assist and rebounding numbers are terrific. He and Goodine might end up our best rebounding guards in a very long time. They could be really special on defense too.

Lastly, I think this road trip was a big moment for Howard Washington, who played well in limited minutes and made a play for meaningful playing time this season. PT for guards is going to be tough to come by but he showed a lot to me with his play in Italy.

So looking at it the entirely wrong way our 5 projected starters combined for about 160 points per 40. Cut the averages by half so that’s 80 points or so every 40. Add in the bench players and is it unreasonable to expect 90 points a game with consistent average shooting?

No. Duke, uva, unc will be a bit better than the intramural teams we played.

That’s why I cut the scoring in half. Plus we play many other teams then them 3 as well

Anyone have QGs totals from the FT line for the trip? Hopefully he was just off this game.

Sounds like from everyone's reports he'll be at the line frequently.

Can't wait to see him play.

Not that it matters, but some of the stats are off in this thread. Donna did post the first 3 box scores on twitter.

I didn't do something like this because we don't have the minutes for game 4. If you are just using the totals for the first three games, than this becomes more meaningful.

Not that it matters, but some of the stats are off in this thread. Donna did post the first 3 box scores on twitter.

Which ones are off? The first 3 games that Donna posted on Twitter were official box scores from the site. The 4th game they weren’t kept but mike waters kept them himself to the best of his ability. Sure, he could have missed a steal or an assist but I’m sure they are pretty close to accurate.

It would not be surprising if some of my totals are off. I was using a magnifying glass to read some of those boxes and also had to get Italian translations. That plus my cross-outs and typical scribbling are a bad combination. Do you have the correct totals?

Yes, I do in the original post: 6/13.

A player's fouls, especially a big man's, tend to reflect his knowledge of the team's strategy and his mobility. Fouls get called on players who are trying to make up for not being where they need to be. That's typically a problem for young big men like Edwards. It looks like it's not going to be a problem for Bourama if the tendinitis doesn't return.

Most of the players have good rebounding numbers for their position. That's partially a product of the opposition they were playing but I like the distribution: everyone can help us on the boards. it will help make up for the loss of Oshae's rebounding and the fact that we are going to be a significantly shorter team this year, at least when Marek isn't on the court.

I'm pretty sure we do know who our point guard is. It's Jalen Carey.

I’m talking about this thread specifically, not Donna. Some guys shot better than what was posted. Again not a big deal as I know Steve follows this closely.

Ah, that'll throw things off pretty badly then. I was just using the numbers you provided

I've checked my numbers vs. the linked article vs. the posted box scores and made the necessary changes to my numbers, (which are not in a per game format). I also found 3 errors in the linked article so I did not make changes in those cases:

CENTERS
Bourama Sidibe 67:15 13/23 0/1 8/19 34p 48r 2a 4s 10b 5to 8pf
Jesse Edwards 52:45 8/18 0/1 5/8 21p 18r 0a 1s 5b 4to 12pf

FORWARDS
Quincy Guerrier 78:31 16/19 3/10 6/13 47p 38r 7a 5s 2b 7to 3pf
Elijah Hughes 70:48 10/18 11/32 5/6 58p 16r 10a 11s 1b 5to 4pf
Robert Braswell 60:52 7/12 3/8 5/7 28p 19r 3a 4s 1b 5to 3pf

GUARDS
Buddy Boeheim 57:24 1/5 13/32 7/8 48p 11r 2a 4s 0b 4to 5pf
Brycen Goodine 56:09 5/9 7/24 3/4 34p 12r 12a 6s 1b 5to 4pf
Joe Girard 52:08 1/5 11/25 5/7 40p 8r 5a 5s 0b 5to 6pf
Jalen Carey 49:43 15/23 1/5 4/8 37p 15r 11a 6s 1b 5to 1pf
Howard Washington 34:35 1/4 4/11 0/2 14p 6r 8a 4s 0b 4to 2pf

The three errors I found in the linked article are:

- Buddy Boeheim had 11 rebounds, which over 4 games is 2.8 per game. not 3.8. The game-by-game breakdown below shows him with 11 rebounds (2 + 5 + 0 +4 = 11), as do the box scores.

- Elijah Hughes had 5 turnovers vs. the box scores, which is 1.25 or 1.3 per game. The game by game breakdown says that he had 3 turnovers vs. Varese but the box score says he had 2.

- Jalen Carey scored 37 points which is 9.25 or 9.3 per game. he was 16 for 28 from the field, 1 for 5 from the arc, (meaning he was 15 for 23 on two pointers), and 4 for 8 from the stripe. 15 x 2 plus 1 x 3 plus 4 x 1 = 37 points. I think they mistakenly reprinted Quincy Guerrier's scoring average, which was 11.8, as Carey's.

I don't think any of the discrepancies would significantly alter any analysis.
