How many of you are DVR game watchers vs how many of you HAVE to see the game real time?

Im all about the DVR..especially if you can get just the right amount of time behind such that you can fast forward the tv time outs but not be so far behind as to make knowing the result nearly inevitable.

i know some people that just cannot handle that...they NEED to be watching real time or they'd just rather know the score then and there

I have never DVRed anything. Nothing on TV is so important that I need to record it

If I can't be home to watch it, I do set the DVR, but I still can't resist getting updates on Twitter.

I can't keep myself from checking the game scores on my phone if I can't watch. I DVR'd the Seton Hall game earlier this year while I was at a family function where we didn't have service, and still couldn't help but check the final score on my phone during the ride home.

Why DVR when you have internet access with you at all times? The live boxscore tells you everything you need to know about what is going on in the game. Not to mention that you can stream live footage easier now too, although your battery would probably die before the end of the game.

I must watch live, I also have anywhere from 2-8 people texting me during it, so i' i'm behind, they will say something to possibly ruin it.

God bless the mute button. Couldn't watch live otherwise while kids are doing homework and other distractions are taking place, not to mention the talking heads add zero to the game. Zero.

I hate commercials just as much as I love to watch the game live.

I'd rather watch live, but the times I've DVR'd it, I avoid media and friends and my phone like the plague. I just enjoy watching the games too much to just check the updating scores.

I also don't mind being a few minutes behind if I'm running late from picking up the required amount of buffalo wings.

I do love the ability to ff the commercials, but I'm watching the game in real time, even if we are ten down. A lot of my buddies will fast forward if we are losing to find if the 19-2 run comes.

I will mute most college games except cuse games. i will also listen in if Raf, bilas and Sean are commentating. Love that trio.

Commercials suck. I prefer to watch live, but sometimes if I'm waiting for a buddy to arrive I'll pause it for 10-15 mins and catch up, it eats all the commercials for at least the first half, sometimes a chunk of halftime. That way I still see the last 10-15 minutes of the game live

food is stupid if the game is on.

Can't Dvr, it drives me nuts. I can't never stop myself from checking the score. I DVRed the ND game for my anniversary dinner, my wife knew I was about to pop, and let me head to the bar for the last 5 minutes. I'm also in the "two or three people text me about the game" boat, so unless I'm out of service, I'm toast

I don't mind DVR'ing random games, but I almost always watch my teams live.

Agreed, but pre game its ritual for me. Usually timed perfectly to be done by tip-off.
good man. I cant do anything while the game is on, commercials are when i get everything in that needs to be done (eat, take dogs out, bathroom, converse with humanoids)

I'm local. I always watch the games live with the TV mute on and listen to the WAER radio coverage. I don't think I've watched or listened to a TV commercial in 10 years.

I was always a 'watch the game live' type until the last few years. Once my daughter was born things changed... the bedtime ritual and all. I often DVR, get her to bed and then start watching about 30-40 minutes after the game has started. This is the perfect amount of time to ff through all the commercials and halftime, and catch up to live in the last few minutes.

I will say that for NCAA tourney games, I HAVE to watch live.

And I'm also in the 'getting texts throughout the game' boat (often from the OP - Steveholt), so I usually send out a text prior to the game for 'no spoilers' if I'm going the DVR route.

My second true confession of the day is that when Syracuse is still playing badly late into the second half I sometimes DVR it and walk out of the room for about 10 minutes to get a beer, make a pitstop etc. so that I can fast forward it to see if they have caught up. Keeps me from breaking things, but I feel like a wussy fan.

Ok, there, I feel better now...

I cannot tolerate commercials. Especially on CBS. I just can't see one play in a critical stretch of the game then 4 minutes of commercials, then one more play, 3 minutes of commercials. No way.

Some of the responses to this question are funny because it's clear some people have no idea what a DVR is. This is not "tape it and watch it some other time." This is "hit pause and bounce off the walls for 15 minutes, then start watching it so you can fast forward all the commercials."

I start every single game about 15 minutes behind. Then FF the commercials. Its the only way to watch. I NEVER EVER answer my phone or look at text messages during a game - that is nuts. The people who are worried about getting the ending ruined because they check the box scores, or read texts, etc aren't thinking about this correctly. The only reason you are doing all that extraneous crap is because you have endless minutes of commercial breaks to cool your heels through. Us "pausers" don't have that at all. Once I start watching the game - it is constant action throughout. No time to even think about looking at text messages or to cook a pot roast.

I love the DVR route. I absolutely hate sitting through all of the commercials. I also love having the ability to replay anything I want as many times as I want.

If I am watching a game alone, I can hardly handle real time. I often must DVR it as others do, to control my stress. Once I can't FF, I feel like a helpless babe. If friends call during the game, I instantly say, "I'm not on real time!" When I watch the game with others, I can tolerate real time better because I am interacting and distracted. I almost always watch tournament games with others.

How are we all going to get through the next 7 hours??? I only have 1 more client, then I will get my hair done. I need MUCHO DISTRACTO.

DVR is the last resort...3 times this year. I have a rule that I have to watch it all, can't see a few seconds, can't check to see the score on my phone, live in fear someone will tell me the result. Nothing worse then knowing the game is on and not being able to see it. I'm certainly not concentrating on whatever it is I have to do...I want to see the game!

I don't like watching games completely DVR'd. Would rather watch them live. At times it is nice to pause the game when I have to do something, get food, drink, bathroom break, etc. Gives me a little time to skip the commercials and still stay close to live time. Plus I kind of feel weird yelling or cheering when I know the play has already happened minutes earlier. I am yelling/cheering at a recording not a live viewing.
