Congratulations to Marvin Harrison , Hall Of Fame Nominee

If OJ is allowed to stay in the Hall then Marvin should be a first ballot.

"Do you think it was a bigger feat to break 2,000 yards in one season or slice two necks in one night?"

Are you familiar with those callers ... they are called the Wolfpack ... part of the Kid Chris shock jock cult ... they used to play that here on 96.1 when Kid Chris was hosting his morning show here in Atlanta. The Wolfpack would call in TV and Radio shows and feed the call audio back to Kid Chris ... as a sidebar Kid Chris grew up in Chittenango NY in the same neighborhood as Dave Mirra for those who actually care LOL

I hour he gets in and think he should, but I'm not sure if it is a slam dunk. I wonder if any of the voters will take into consideration the perception that there may have been involvement in that murder.

Do you think it will slow down Ray Lewis' nomination?

If/when he gets in, I cannot wait to hear his acceptance speech. Over/under on length? I say 20 seconds. Something like "Ummm...wow...I would like to thank...damn, just give me the freaking trophy...what? It is a bust? And, it stays here? What do I get? This off yellow jacket? **k, where my gun at?"

You assume he shows up for the ceremony.

I still hate Tim Brown and the ND hype machine for their thievery. Had McPherson played in the current era where the qb is the only viable Heisman candidate he would have brought the hardware home. And screw you too, Pat Dye!

That, and had the media not created a stupid groundswell of support for Gordie Lockbaum. IMHO, Gordie's votes (being he was a northeast guy) would have largely gone to McPherson. It was dumb to vote for a two-way player from Holy Cross for the Heisman.

Was one of my favorite players to watch. In the era of the prima donna wide receiver, Harrison ran clean routes, caught everything, and rarely made a sound. That Colts offense with Peyton, Marvin, Reggie Wayne, Edgerrin James, and Dallas Clark was incredible. Always found myself rooting for that Colts team because of Harrison and Freeney.

And when he scored a TD, he simply handed the ball to the official. An under-appreciated act, IMO.

Notre Dame lost their last three games of the season, including their bowl game, and finished 8-4. I believe the Heisman was voted on before ND last reg season game. Brown did squat in that game, and the bowl game. Ugh

And SU will be at 9 before ya know it with Harrison and Coughlin. Now after those 2 it might be a long dry spell but those 2 are LOCKS to get in.

Who would be next and have a legitimate shot to get in? Freeney?

Definitely possible for him. Anybody else I'm forgetting?

Except on this play. One of my favorite Marvin Harrison moments. Apologize for the terrible quality and unnecessary song.

I don't think Freeney is a hall of fame player. When guys like Charles Haley, Kevin Greene, and soon to be Jason Taylor will struggle to get in. I think Freeney is a long shot at best and honestly I think he has no shot. He will make the Final 15 and the final ballots a bunch but I don't see him getting in. No kickers get in so that eliminates Gary Anderson, not that he is hall of fame worthy anyway. Biggest kick of his life he missed (NFC Champ game Minny vs Atlanta.) Can't mention McNabb he isn't close to HOF worthy. I think its gonna be a long dry spell after those 2. I mean still, 9 for this football program's history is one hell of an accomplishment

McNabb / Bullock would be next best but I don't think they will be HOF'ers.

He's a slam dunk HOF'er. No question about it.

Yeah, that is the fascinating part of this. It would seem outside his personality to show up and accept the award with grace. But, I am really hoping, when elected, he does show up, and recognize that although it was his talent that won him the award, there were people along the way that either showed him the path or helped him to stay on it.

fwiw i dont think mcnabb gets in but I think he will make the final 15 at least once or twice.

all time career ranks
yards (17th)
TDs (22nd)
completions (14th)
% of passes intercepted (4th)
total offense (13th)
passer rating (25th)

These are probably not HOF numbers but they are likely finalist numbers. They actually compare pretty favorably with Jim Kelly, another QB whose "black mark" has been his inability to "close the deal".

yards (18th)
TDs (20th)
completions (21st)
% of passes intercepted (105th)
total offense (17th)
passer rating (28th)

Obviously the key difference is that Kelly fell short in the SB rather than the NFC Championship...but really, McNabb isnt THAT far off.

i thought the board put 1 of the jones in the HOF based on a great preseason game v guys who didnt make the final 53??

after TC, the well will be dry for a bit for sure.

but its still a high # that will be talked about, if anybody ever decides to talk about such a #...which nobody does.

having Zonk, Floyd and TC in the backfield at the same time and all in the Hall, will be pretty damn cool though.

Wish we could get Coughlin more involved in SU football, even if it's just as a visitor to the Dome and meeting with the players.

I liked Harrison even as a Pats fan. Great receiver, easy Hall of Fame lock, him and Peyton were the best duo ever.

However, the black mark will be how much people read into the car wash situation...

Harrison should be an absolute lock. If they keep him out because of character issues, then they better go back and kick a whole bunch of other people out.

And somewhere along the line, crapping on McNabb became the cool thing to do for a lot of football fans for some reason. But he deserves strong consideration too. He didn't win it all, but he won an awful lot of football games and has very good career numbers and accomplishments. I'd argue he was the 3rd best QB of the 2000-2009 decade.

MLB HoF considers off the field but I believe the Football Hall does not. Marvin Harrison belongs. McNabb's stats belong but I think never winning a ring will keep him out.

I apologize if this seems naive or ignorant, but was Harrison's alledged criminal activity widely known or remembered outside of Philly, Syracuse and maybe Indy? Not to say that it wouldn't be brought up in selection discussions, just that it might not be on the minds of the general public when Marvin is mentioned.

I remember it being featured pretty prominently on ESPN. GQ even did a huge spread/story on it:

Unlike Ray Lewis, no charges were every brought and no indictments handed down. It may slow down his induction, perhaps, but it certainly won't keep him out.

In his first year of eligibility Harrison has made the cut in the final 15 names eligible. His competition at the WR position are Tim Brown and Andre Reid. If there is any justice Harrison gets in over Brown who hijacked the Heisman from Don Mcpherson in 1987. Anyway Good luck to him I think its fifty/fifty he makes it this time but I think for sure he makes it eventually.

To be fair, if there truly were 'any justice' in the world, Harrison would be behind bars. Then again that would only make him worse than like 1/3 of the NFL guys playing today, so it's probably irrelevant.
