The shooting numbers below are not gonna cut it over a 35-40 game season.

Third year in the program... When can we stop using "jitters" or "nerves" or "he's forcing it" as excuses.

No one's rooting for the guy more than I am, but frustration is mounting.

FG.....3PT
4/14......2/7 (McGill)
5/9...3/4 (Bishop)
4/12......2/8 (Carleton)
13/35 ......7/19 (TOTALS)

37% overall and 36% from 3

Not exactly "light's out."

Especially when you consider just how overmatched Bishop was.

Hell, most of us could shoot pretty well against our local middle school teams.

quite frankly, I would take 36% from 3 for the year from TC right now.

The more i think about it, the more I tend to agree with you.

I guess I'm at the point where I feel let down by the expectations of all the "Awesome shooter" and "better shooter than GMac" talk we heard when he arrived on the Hill.

Would like him to get his overall shooting percentage up near 45% though.

But to do that, he'd need to take some easy shots now and again.

Well Gerry only shot above 36% from 3 one out of his four years, so I'd be ok with 36% from TC

Cooney's 3pt% right now is higher than all but Rautin's senior season and higher than all but GMac's junior season.

Of course it's 3 games so it could go down against better comp, but it could also go up.

I'll take 37% from 3 all day long and twice when we play Duke.

People need to relax about Cooney's shooting. He is going to be fine. Take away his 0-9 start and he did pretty well the last two games. He can put up the quickest 8-12 points than anyone else on this team.

Another thing that I always look at is HOW a shooter is missing. Cooney has had a few go in-and-out & most of his misses are hitting the rim softly...an improvement from last year. I like his form & demeanor this year but still think that he could utilize the shot-fake/drive more.

From a statistical standpoint.

In the flow of the game, GMac would shoot 30% from 3. But when you needed a dagger, he was 80%.,

WRONG... that.

I'm a terrible shooter

No arguments here.

Just wondering, is Cooney's lights out shooting vs the zone in practice? I don't know how much they practice man in practice and was just curious.

I have low concern about Trevor. He's going to be good this year.

I don't know about "jitters" or "nerves" or "he's forcing it" -- but I do think inexperience is a factor at this stage of his tenure. And hopefully this tour of Canada is going to help accelerate his developmental curve for the season. Very happy he's going to get four exhibition games under his belt even before preseason practice tips off.

Oh Lord

Just as a reference point... 36% from 3 = 54% from 2.

100 shots produces 108 points from 3...that's 54 of 100 from 2.

I worry about Cooney getting open. He gets open better and looks so much taller off of movement but misses those shots. He is a unemotional, step by step, spot up shooter at his best right now. Even James shot well coming off of mvement and some games couldn't get off more then 3-4 threes. Cooney is still shooting about 20% from outside off of movement.

I think Fair and Grant playing together and Ennis driving alot like a SG in isolation over time will open things up for him. I wouldn't be suprised to see Cooney shoot more shots then andy rautins did his senior year per minutes played. Andy only averaged 8.5 shots in 32 mpg game. Thats only a shot every 3 minutes 45 seconds, but he could pull up off of one dribble or a pumpfake once in a while also. And Andy averaged 12.0 ppg in 32 I would be happy to see cooney average 8 in 20 minutes.

I agree the outside shooting ability was over stated by Jimmy to begin with. If the kid is going to succeed in Div1 level play he needs to be able to shake off what ever it is that is keeping him from netting the shots from the arc

So, Cooney finaly shows some ballhandling, drives to the rim, strong finishes and strong shooting and some of us are still b*tching? Nice.

It's not like Gbinije or Patterson did anything spectacular. Cooney has showed a lot of improvement and that's all I can ask for from a player who struggled like he did in very limited minutes. Stop beating up on the guy because your expectations were unnecessarily high.

Put me in the camp that would love 36% from 3.

You realize this would be much better than all three of our guards from last year, yes?
