Playing Cornell on Wednesday. We get the 38th most possessions per game in college basketball. Cornell is 29th. Neither team forces a lot of turnovers, but both want to rebound and go. This will be a fast game.
Red was talking about transition defense a week or two ago. They've been practicing it. This is a game they can show what they learned the last two weeks of practice.
Also, vs. Texas Tech we had 12 turnovers to its 3. It felt like most of our turnovers were dumb mistakes - the kind of mistakes you can't make and win a close game. We need to take care of the basketball, communicate, stop telegraphing passes, etc., and try to get some turnovers so we can run.
More than that I just want to see good solid defense - I don't want to feel like we have to score every trip because the other side easily gets open looks. I want to see Chris Bell shoot 35-40% from 3 or sit more. If Carlos isn't playing well I want to see him sit and give us Moore if we need scoring or Taylor if we need defense. I want to see Donnie take better defensive positioning and better help defense. I want to see JJ stay in front of guys and continue to take control of the team.
Most of all, I want to see this team win by 20. After Cornell, we have Tennessee and then Notre Dame. Let's see a tune-up game to build off a disappointing yet better outing in Brooklyn instead of fighting for our lives in the Dome against a 210 Kenpom team.
Cornell has a first year head coach. No excuses.
