getting in the habit of yelling SHOT everytime the shot goes up?

I have read many quotes from players about not being quick enough and sitting and watching, so maybe a simple reminder like all 5 players( even the guys on the bench) yelling shot, aka go get the rebound dumbasses

If we have to yell shot every time the ball goes up then we are in worse shape than I thought.

We need some of those Tom Izzo football rebounding drills. Nothing is more frustrating than having a team with NBA size get clowned on the boards.

I am sure that you are on to something. Just be sure to go to the forums of our opponents for away games & let their fans know what needs to be done. Then we will be all set.

the players quotes don't lie

sometimes it is the little things

the way the zone moves, guys are constantly running to recover and if they hear shot they will run to the hoop and not worry about getting to the open shooter, that split second could be big

and also we are in really bad shape in the rebounding department, have you been paying attention?

It is as simple as moving their feet. Stop standing still and watching the ball go towards the basket while the opponent is getting in position, and start finding a man to put a body on and box out. Otto Porter looked like Wes Unseld out there, it was a pathetic effort, but it is as simple a fix as showing more effort to seal off a man when the shot goes up.

Oh I am well aware of it. Believe me I would jump into a vat of dohsh1t head first with my mouth open if it would help solve the rebounding problems this team has.

I still say its effort and they need to show more of it.

Either that or they will drop to the ground hoping not to draw the shooters fire, either way it couldn't hurt our rebounding.

this is my point, it is so simple and they still can't do it so treat them like little CYO kids and make them yell shot, this is youth basketball

::waits for bernie joke::

Everyone is so anxious to get in transistion they just assume Melo will get the board. Unfortunately the answer to getting more boards might be not running as much.

I feel Rak needs to play more at PF

1. We need a true pf for some matchups in march.
2. with the way southerland has slumped he should have taken more minutes by now.

Hes going to outjump outmustle and outwidebody CJ and Southerland.
He needs to watch more of Rick Jacksons rebounding at PF last year and try to emulate that.
Needs to learn to know where the ball is going to bounce the mintue it goes up.

He needs to put all his effort in it for the team in a unselfishway.

Maybe some drills at rebounding from different spots would help instead of the usual 45 degree angle backboard rebound drills pregame.

This is the first Syracuse team to be rated top 25 without a true PF contributor in the last 10 years.
If anyone wants to go further back then that I would be curious.

The fix is Kris Joseph actually trying to rebound. Tired of watching him walk to half court while Fab and Fair try to box out 4 opposing players.

Syracuse should rebound more, so do so...they should not be the 11-12 team that has 1 loss and is #2.

lets stop fastbreaking.
lets stop blocking shots.
lets stop altering shots.
lets stop forcing the opponent into wild shots that bounce crazy off the rim/backboard.
lets stop taking charges.
lets stop getting steals.

lets do all that and get more rebounds.

lets tack about 7 more losses on right now and...
lets add about 7 more losses that would be coming.

enough of this shlit. lets just continue to do what they do great and work a little bit on getting in a little better position on a few things and not fluck this shlit up trying to reinvent the wheel here in feb.

Oh Lord

Funny story when I played in highschool we played a team that yelled shot every time we would shoot the ball. We were down 1 with like 20 seconds to go, so our coach called timeout and told one of our players to yell shot as one of our guards would pump fake like he was going to shoot. The center on the other team turned to the basket to rebound and are center rolled to the other side for an easy layup and we won the game.

Southerland is not in a slump... a slump lasts a week or two...with the exception of the ND game, James has been useless since mid-December. Time for him to ride the pine and give Rak a real chance...I'm talking 15-20 minutes.

I've screamed this from the mountaintops all year. The James experiment is over in my mind. Great kid, nothing against him but he isnt the answer we need. I dont care if he hits his next 50 three point shots, he is a liability out there (except when we press) and I would much rather see Rak get more of his minutes.

When I read that people say he has a chance to start next year I belly laugh out loud. No chance in hell.

Exactly. He's a weapon on defense in the press because his length and leaping ability give the inbounder fits. I would've thought Rak's performance against Cincy and his rebounding against SJU would've earned him some more rope, but he's back to being the ornamental starter again. JB seems to pick one freshman a year to be his whipping boy and Rak's in the role this year.

Getting back to James, how can someone who can jump out of the gym and put on a show in dunk competitions and the like be so one-dimensional. And this is his 4th year in the program!:bang:

he's focused on finishing the fast break, not starting it. I agree, he needs to be a leader on the boards

if JB were to sit a player any time they leaked out, they would break that habit in a hurry. it's quite simple. it's a lack of accountability.

We also should yell "Noonan!" every time one of their guys goes up for a shot.

+1. Southerland built a huge 3 pt% vs the cupcakes and a lot of people on this board took that number for granted. In reality, his slump has just brought him back to earth closer to his career percentages.

Rak needs to see the floor more, we need him in the tournament to play meaningful minutes. He needs to be able to do more than stand around, pick, up a few fouls, and make minimal turnovers a la Riley in '10.

this thread has me loling, good thing i am working from home today

It boggles my mind that a guy with the leaping ability of this kid cant out jump a guy for a rebound.
