I was just watching parts of the 89' game against LSU. It was incredible to see how LSU had no answer for the option. I'm thinking this may be our only chance to win, run the option with the occasional option pass down the field to ishmael.

i just hope the oline stops whiffing so many back side blocks the QB/RB dont get killed. option plays dont cover up bad blocking

If that was indeed the gameplan for this week, then I really do wish Womack would get a few snaps at QB. Something tells me he'd be more effective running the option than at least Wilson, and possibly Mahoney as well.

** cough ** Adams ** cough**

Not that he's a number one read on a option, but have you guys seen beckwith run? That's just an example.

It's a good option! Seriously, one advantage to running it was that teams had a very hard time preparing for it in one week. Just think back to when SU played GT. We were totally confused and got run over.

It didn't help that we changed to a 3-4 for that game.

Usually anything east west against speed is a poor choice

True but running the option to the short side of the field will sometimes negate that advantage, the option is about breaking the attack angles. What I would really like to see is a triple option look with a throw off play action mixed in ... even a freeze option ... that will slow down their aggressive pursuit. Because you know LSU will bring just that.

How have they done against auburn and msu?

That might give you a clue

Zero chance if that's our focus. Maybe they can't prep for it...but we also can't do it well! They'll be in the backfield every play. Short passes in lieu of runs. Only chance to get a first down.

Just a little insight on our defensive strength and weakness so far this year.

Our run defense has been very good so far this year.

Our corners and safeties have been very good so far this year.

We have given up most of our yards and scoring drives, with short intermediate dump passes. They have been wide open. Those 4 to 8 yard passes over the middle have been giving us fits.

I think Mahoney did a fine job running the option. The kid is pretty damn fast and had great timing.

I just watched the highlights from your first 3 games.

How is Dungey compared to Hunt?

Looks like Mahoney and Wilson were very functional in their time in the game. I am an LSU fan but i do hope they come out and are successful this week. (Not too successful though, haha)

Looking forward to the game and have enjoyed reading this site this week.

our defense is built to stop the option. We put the clamps on Johnny Football his Heisman year, we absolutely shut down Georgia Tech in a bowl a few years ago.

Our strength is our speed, which makes running the option difficult. If I was your coach, I would attack the middle of the defense with the run game (remember, we are without a starting linebacker for the 1st half), and use that to open up some short and intermediate passing routes. The best way to attack a speed defense is with timing routes. quick outs and slants give us fits, but it would require the QB and the receivers to not only be on the same page, but to be on the same paragraph on that same page.

I think the recipe for an upset would be:

Win the turnover battle.
Get some unexpected points (defense and ST)
Control the clock.
Not give up big plays in the passing game by selling out to much on #7
