What an out-of-pocket comment from Red last night. I saw it brushed over a little bit in the post-game, but this is seriously tone-deaf regarding what is going on. You just delivered the worst season in 6 decades of this program and I thought the media was soft on you. He wasn't really held accountable for anything, not only by the media but by the administration at Syracuse, the only people holding him accountable are the fans, by not showing up. With comments like these, is he trying to get JW to change his mind? He went to a communication school, did he skip those classes? Does he think comments like this are going to do anything positive for anyone? So so out of touch and just further shows he isn't cut out for this level of coaching on or off the court.

"As an alum you're disappointed in yourself that you can't get your team to play well... But the way the team was covered was a little disappointing."

This tone deaf comment is one more reason Red should be on the hot seat next season if the Orange are not at least on the tourney bubble.

If this really is Red's mentality, he's a dead man walking next year. It matches what we've seen with his teams, and it's a result of him. To hear it out loud is quite jarring.

Red was also asked for his words to the loyal SU fanbase after the tough year and said, "I choose not to answer that question." He's on a crash course for how to lose a fanbase the quickest.

Its like he is trying to get fired after getting the vote of confidence

Wow season tickets are already going to be down and he's saying this stuff???

After I heard this I was able to craft an easy response to this in 5 minutes. This guy feels he doesn’t owe the fans crap. But hey, we have this huge 50mil donation drive going on, please donate. He’s making JW look silly for backing this guy.

That is what I was just thinking, how do you say stuff like this, and then ask the fans for 50 million? Like so out of touch with reality.

eh, this is nothing, IMO. We live in a world of sensitivity and negativity right now and people are more of both than ever.

There's a segment of overly negative people whose hobby is crushing him on line. He's more sensitive to it than he should be and collectively the fans are more sensitive to him saying he was disappointed in it than they should be.

Perhaps he meant the coverage should've been harsher and really taken him to task for the worst season in 60 years, while showing no in-game aptitude or future expectations?

I thought the coverage was overall mostly soft and really provided him excuses throughout the year.

This program is pathetic, soft and going absolutely nowhere with this 'leadership'.

This reminds me so much of the way JW handled Babers exit. If SU doesn’t get to the NCAA tournament Autry is done. Honestly as much as I don’t think Autry can get the job done you have to give him the third year. You don’t fire an alumni after two seasons. Next year is the ultimate sink or swim year for Red. After today I am not going to bother criticizing him. His fate will be determined by his production and I am good with that.

He just isn't capable of doing this job. Softest media in the world and spoiled fans are the problem in his eyes?

He is done here - its just a matter of when and how much damage is done in his wake.
Going into next year with a lame duck coach, obviously not fit for the job, that also is making these statements/comments is just horrendous by Wildhack.

With the push to get donations ongoing and forever a need, you can't have this crap.

With the portal opening up and being the only way we can get better, you can't have this crap.

With fans, season ticket holders, locals, businesses, etc all turning away, all having no faith or expectations any longer, you can't have this crap.

Come on, this is amateur hour that's only getting worse and worse (somehow).

Why does he have to be given a 3rd year? Why can't you fire an alum after 2? This is why this program sucks. His fate should already be determined by the lack of production and overall ineptitude shown.

But it probably doesn't matter if all the buyout dollars are truly the cause.

For Autry to go up there and carry himself like that, on the verge of tears are you kidding me? Could you ever see JB crying or on the verge of tears in a press conference after a loss??? Think about that. Adrian is in over his head as a power 4 D1 head coach. SMU shut down Lampkin and Red had no plan in place to address that. We over-pass on offense, opting for acrobatic, high difficulty two's when we need threes. It's mind blowing

He's not cut out for this and for him to refuse to answer that last question and not send a message to the fan base to try and reassure us that everything is under control and they have a plan is pathetic and speaks volumes. He's a guard position coach not a D1 head coach. There is another year of this on the horizon and it sucks knowing this. Wildhack needs to go.

Oh man, it gets wors,e here is the clip 5OutFred was talking about.

Wow, that is embarrassing. A basic question, perhaps even a softball, when all he has to say is we're going to work our tails off and fight to improve this program in the coming weeks is all he needed to say. A nothing answer really, but at least shows some fight and some understanding.

'No comment'-ing is so bad.
