I may be smelling the oranges but in looking at our returning players i think we have a solid core of O skill players coming back.

ED is a star in the making. Yes he needs to stay healthy but what QB doesnt.
Ish is a true number 1 receiver who should do very well under Babers
Est is a burner who we know can take it to the house in space same with Irv.
All strickland does is create highlights everytime he touches the ball
JF is a true stud in the making and Morris and Mcfarland are solid back ups
Corny always seems to be a practice all star maybe under the Dino he carries it over to games
Custis and Eonicy sure pass the look test
If Dunk is healthy i can see him as a threat
Lewis is going to think he has died and gone to heaven
Avant is my pick for break out player next year

All in all i think that Dino and crew have to be salivating over the talent we have on this team. If the O line can come together i expect us to make some waves next year!

The two keys will be the QB situation and the O-line.

Will the big fellas pick up the new system and be able to execute at a high level? Tough to predict how we'll perform here. We have new starters and unknowns behind them.

At QB, Dungey cannot afford any more hits to the head; I really hope Culpepper is ready and able as a true frosh, similar to ED last year. Should help that he early enrolled.

You left out Phillips, who has a chance to blossom in a Babers offense.

I am not sold at all on Cornelius, Custis, Enoicy, Dunkelberger, or the two back-up RBs. Hope we can do better, with help in this recruiting class. Ishmael would be a nice #2 receiver, if we had a first rate WR with speed, along the lines of Lewis at BGSU.

Otherwise, I agree with the point that there are skill players in the returning group. It is notable that the current staff is going big at DE, LB, and the safety spots, and putting at least as much emphasis on basic football (including, possibly, a big RB) as on the aerial circus.

No i mentioned Irv and think that he is going to be amazing under Dino

The other kid that im looking forward to seeing is the kid from Alabama who came in as a qb switched to Wr. He sure looks like a smooth fast Ath

I missed that. He is Erv. And, yes, I expect Erv and a few others (Estime) will be very happy.

What some may not realize is that Dino did not use many of his own recruits on offense at BGSU. He used the cupboard that Clawson left for him, recruited one star receiver, and added a juco TE in his second year. His defensive recruits added depth, and arguably had more impact. But his BG offense was put together, with few exceptions, from the carry-over talent.

We might see the same thing.

If you squint while watching BG highlights, you'd swear Dungey was playing QB (and gained some weight). Very similar players and throwing motions, IMO.

I don't know about "salivating" but I think there are pieces to work with and that we can expect at least decent results in year 1.

When the O was sputtering this past season and folks were clamoring about "lack of talent" I really disagreed. Not that we're Clemson or FSU, but in those losses to Pitt, UVA, UL and NC State I really didn't think we were outclassed athletically. We lack the athletic dept a few of those peer schools have, but I thought we had enough horses to compete.

I think the QB injuries and the system itself held us back last year. If we have a modicum of health in 2016 we have enough to score some points -- not at the level Dino is going to want, but more than we have been doing in the past 15 years.

I believe you're right.

If there is one kid that i want to see in this O it is Strickland. He is amazing in space seems to have the ability to take it to the house each touch. I felt that we needed to have the ball in his hands a dozen or more times a games. Super talent and only going to get better

Agree with basically all of this.

plenty of talent
incredibly fast practices
a million reps of a few tasks
division of labor
no more jack of all trades
better system
valuable experience last year
this reads like
sh!tty haikus
don't care can't wait
for next season

I believe that we will see some serious miscues and gaffs that will make us want to scream...as it is a new systems the kids will be learning on the job. But I also believe we will see some serious (going to thesaurus to find a word to use other than flashes) growth and plays that make us think about what can be in this offense.

Will be an equally frustrating, yet exciting.

Am I the only one who thinks that the system will trump the offensive skilled talent we have, with the exception of the QB spot? I have a feeling that the coaches will be able to scheme / play call guys to get them open. We don't have world beating WR / TE talent by any means, but they should be adequate. Conversely, RB should be a strength.

I'm much more worried about OL, and whether Dungey can stay healthy and run the new system.

Until a depth chart is released it is hard to tell what will happen. We have no clue where kids will be moved in this new O. What will happen to the XBs? Will they be slot WRs or be moved to RB? Where will Brisley, Lewis, and Avant play? Inside or outside? Why did some of the other WRs not get PT? Was it because of they lacked the ability to run block in Lester's system? If that isn't important in Baber's system will we see kids jump into the lineup? With the OL anything can happen. We have no clue which 5 will start. Even Palmer needs to prove himself. I think he at least moves to G, would be surprised to see him at T.

I agree Palmer is a natural G who was forced into the T spot because we were so weak. I think that the Tackles will really surprise this year as they all seem to be able to run which is important in this O

Yes, we don't know for sure, until the end of Spring practices -- and there may be competition at a couple of positions after that, and ideally, a true frosh adds to the competition.

We do have clues. One is the way BGSU lined up under Babers, almost always with a single RB, and then either (1) a TE, an "inside receiver" and two "outside receivers"; or (2) no TE, two inside receivers and two outside receivers. He is bringing the same offensive co-coordinators, and the same schemes.

We have two returning starters in the OL, and add Conway, Adams, and Roberts as the best of the others. Try Palmer inside at OG, if Adams can play R-OT. None of the other OL on the roster got significant snaps, other than McGloster and Shanley.

Dungey at QB; Frederick at RB.

Parris at TE, Ishmael at one of the outside receiver spots. Lewis likely backs up Parris in situations where the TE is going to be a component of the passing attack.

Strickland & Phillips are candidates for the two inside receiver spots; though Estime could fit there as well, and maybe a true frosh gets a shot in August.

Big question -- who is the best fit at the second outside receiver spot. Babers had taller WRs at the outside spots, and he started Lewis as a true frosh. Maybe he lands someone who can do that.

I am sure it will be more complicated than that, and the new staff might take an entirely fresh look. Still, we have 8 players with starting experience, so we do have clues about where they can fit.

This, exactly what I said at the top of this thread

Great thread! I believe the talent we already have in house will surprise dino and the offensive coaches. I believe they will be pleasantly surprised and like previously stated ish and Lewis will be reborn! It's all about system and approach. I mean where would julian Edelman be without the NE system?

All of the XB'x will be great in this system. Kids that can play WR, Slot or RB will allow this offense to haev multiple kids on the field that can carry the ball or split out. Means even less subbing and the use of more formations with more talent on the field, that equals mismatches.

I don't think that's how this system works. That's more of what Lester was trying to do. In Babers system you'll see more defined roles.

I think that you will see Ish, AC, Eoincy, Custis, and the kid from Alabama on the outside.

Erv, Bris, Moe, Strick, Lewis on the inside. I think that both Bris and Lewis may end up playing both positions
