Curt Cignetti approach

Sometimes simpler is better…and many of these coaches overthink this to the max and probably make this stuff counterproductive. Not gonna say everyone can follow this blueprint, but this guy seems crazy good. And you can tell he really believes his approach is balls on target. Ain’t nobody left gonna touch Indiana in this year’s playoff. Will be interesting to see how long he can sustain this there. Still nuts to think that he did this with no 4 or 5 star guys and a bunch of lower level jumps. Impressive. Of course his NIL is nuts too which won’t hurt going forward, and QB’s can make all the difference at any level.
 
Such a refreshing approach. I've long found the "be in in the facility by 5am, work 16 hours a day" stuff peddled by most coaches to be nonsense. It's also a lie since we find out that half these guys are taking the time to nail coeds on the side.

Be prepared, work hard and efficiently, spend time with your family & friends, and get some sleep. That's all you need to be successful.

All that "RISE AND GRIND" bullsp!t is just an Instagram influencer grift.

I find this transitions in corporate world too. If my business is green and running good, and I can speak to it, why do I need to put in crazy hours?
 
In a nutshell: Work smarter, not harder.

But, I would assume there are both caveats to this as well as limitations. For now, Cignetti seems to have found that sweet spot. I’m rooting for him and Indiana too, but it will be curious to see what, if any, cultural shifts occur elsewhere in the college football landscape. Personally, I suspect there will be a limited change. But as his assistant coaches and coordinators leave for other opportunities, as is largely inevitable at this point, will his coaching tree “spread the word?"
 
I think Cig is selling himself short here he’s a fantastic coach. Probably smart to keep the kids fresh each week versus busting butt needlessly in practice, but honestly I think it all comes down to his game planning and he seems to be one of the best at multiple levels. I like brown but it’s a shame we didn’t get a chance to get him up here for an interview.

Edit: looking back he may have already been too far down the road with Indiana by the time we fired Dino

We beat that QB last season.
 
He is basically running it with peak efficiency and a Six Sigma approach to running the team where as most coaches feel more time = better results.
Love it and it is refreshing to see someone really driving home how this is a very useful and proper approach.

Agree and he doesn't seem to BS or add fluff to his answers, gets to the point and moves on.

Agree. I think it's meathead thinking that the longer they work, it just gives them an edge somehow, regardless if it is productive time. Everything is a competition.

The budget is the big one. Indiana has the perfect storm of being a land grant with big pocketed donors, transfers that have mostly worked out perfectly, combined with being a high level team for the first time in forever.
