Syracuse has announced a 'Cuse Concert Series featuring local bands prior to three home basketball games this winter.

The Series includes shows before games against Georgetown on Dec. 8, Georgia Tech on Jan. 12 and Boston College on Feb. 9. The concerts will be held in the northeast corner of the Dome's backcourt area.

My So-Called Band, a four-piece 90's cover band from Syracuse is scheduled for the Georgetown game. The group plays pop, rock, dance, hip-hop, country and more. Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. and the band will perform from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. The matchup with the Hoyas has a 3:30 p.m. tipoff.

Country Swagg, a five-piece Syracuse country band is scheduled for the pairing with Georgia Tech. Country Swagg has played regular shows around Central New York since bursting on the local music scene in 2013. Dome gates will open at noon on Jan. 12 and Country Swagg will perform from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.

The 'Cuse Concert Series wraps up with Last Left from Utica. The four-person group plays a variety of music ranging from Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake to Michael Jackson and Bruno Mars. After the gates open at noon on Feb. 9, Last Left will perform from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15, prior to tipoff at 2:00 p.m.

Too bad they don't try to promote Original Upstate music there are so many great independent young bands with original Music from Saratoga Springs to Buffalo that most folks have little exposure to they could give a leg up, rather than just using cover bands!

Somebody always has to bitch about how the really cool thing someone is doing is not cool enough. SMH:confused:

i think more people will go early to listen to stuff they know than show up for bands they have no clue what they will be playing. Im not sure it skews any new ticket sales just to listen to music

Literally the first reply, lmao.

My thoughts as I read the original post...”Awesome! Making use of your resources and bringing some FUN to the Dome, getting people in there early, making an event of these games...”, then it went to, “I wonder how people will find something to complain about here? They won’t play any Creedence?”

except that in the greater overall sense he's right

its a shame that talented original bands won't get the shot, but people like stupid cover bands so let them have their fun

He's not right. The Carrier Dome and SU athletics are not in the business of providing venues for discovering musical talent. They are in the entertainment business. No one goes to a basketball game to hear the band. The band is background. If you are interested in discovering new, local talent, go to clubs where they have venues set up for that kind of thing or let the locals go on America's Got Talent, the Voice, X-Factor, etc. They can get discovered then.

I reject your premise.

sorry to suggest original thinking I forgot that is not allowed! and you have no clue!... these bands draw as much or more than Cover bands and many have sizable followings, if you get the right ones!!!
Because certain people have not heard of them does not mean they are not good or do not have a significant group of fans!!!
