By any measure, the 2015-16 academic year was the most successful in the history of Syracuse University Athletics. The Orange finished in 21st place in the 2015-16 National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Learfield Division I Directors' Cup with a school-record 12 teams scoring points. Syracuse was the fourth-highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference school.

The University of North Carolina led six ACC schools that finished in the Top 25 of the 2015-16 Learfield Director’s Cup standings. Joining the Tar Heels (No. 7) in the Top 25 are Virginia (No. 8), Notre Dame (No. 17), Syracuse (No. 21), Florida State (No. 22) and Duke (No. 24).
The Directors’ Cup measures NCAA postseason competitive success and awards points to a maximum of 10 men’s and 10 women’s programs per school.
