Love the front line with Brissett, Marek and Chukwu.

• Brissett will play 40 and average 18-20 pets and 8-10 rebounds
• Marek plays 35 and will do it all averaging 12 Pts, 6 reb, 3 assists
• Chukwu plays 25 and is one of the top defensive centers in the league
• Sidibe giv3s you 15-20 minutes (some nights more) and gives you some back to the basket game with rebounding
• Howard plays 35 and improves once again with better assist to turnover ratio, and similar offensive numbers
• Carey explodes on the scene and gives you driving, outside shooting and someone who can breakdown any defender
• Hughes grabs a few minutes at SF and a bunch of minutes at 2g where he excels at defense, knocks down shots and offers options at guard spots and forward
• Buddy gets situational opportunities and defends the top of the zone and prevents anyone from zoning us
• Howard if he is healthy now gets a chance to back up Frank and provide outside shooting and pure PG play in reserve role
• If we can convince a grad transfer to come in and backup the forward spots then even better

Losing DB hurts but doesn’t prevent next year from being special. The zone is still just as good. Jimmy has been phenomenal in the NCAA’s and teams can’t figure out our defense. We won’t be a run and gun team but we will win in March and that is all that matters.

Keep the faith Cuse fans. I’m calling top 15-20 all season and a very deep run in March!

This post massively underestimates the loss of Battle. He took the pressure and attention off every other player and was our closer. 2nd team all ACC and should have been 1st.

Agreed but depth did not hurt us at all in the tournament. Would love to add one more forward but only 7 or 8 will really play when it counts

There is no doubt we lost star studded talent. With that said it was adding a surplus at a position of strength, not filling a need lost ( unless Oshae or Marek jump ship).

We should get 3 things next year should Battle leave , Sidibe get healthy and Oshae and Marek stay.

1- a legit threat attacking the rim. Carey is the piece missing more than Bazely on offense. Battle had size and strength but had to rely on a lot of shake and bake and floaters due to a lack of ability to quickly get to the bucket. Easy baskets have been a staple of our best teams. Dion, scoop, MCW, Gbinije etc all brought that at some point in their careers. Carey has that element coming right in.

2- Post Scoring. We all know that is rarely a go to of late. A healthy Sidibe early on showed this is something he brings. Getting that guy back gives us at least one player we can look to get buckets from down low.

3- 3 pt shooting. Frank, Carey , Buddy , Hughes and improved Oshae and Marek should elevate this part of the offense which was putrid this past year.

Add one or two more solid forwards to give us depth ( 1 at least ) and the missing pieces really are there to be a much much better team. Not sure Bazely does much more than add to existing strengths as much as what the elements Carey , Hughes and Buddy bring that we had very little of.

There’s only so much of a ceiling as a whole for the plodding/slow it down offense mixed with a very good defense. At least Virginia does it with a purpose and moves the ball, runs sets, and get good shots. Plodding along with Frank has it’s limits and no Battle most likely.

I like what Pat, (20 Plus) said on the radio today: we need to pretend we never had Bazley and look at what we have.

Howard, Battle, Dolezaj, Brissett and Chuwku backed up by Carey, Washington, Boeheim, Hughes and Sidibie is still potentially a very strong team. Remember that returning players figure to improve and we just made the Sweet 16.

If we lose Battle, Carey or Hughes could fill his spot quite well if the reports about them are true.

If we also lose Brissett, we could still have a winning team with Howard, Carey, Hughes, Dolezaj,and Chukwu backed up by Washington, Boeheim and Sidibie. It's just that there would be no margin for error, (further defections, injuries, foul trouble, etc.). And JB would be after getting somebody else to help shore things up - either JUCO, grad transfer, late recruit, or another foreign player.

It will be a 'Syracuse' team. It just might not be a Top 5 team as we had hoped for.

If Hughes as good as we've been hearing and OB/MD make the 2nd year leap with PC/BS staying healthy - there's no reason we can't stay in the top 20 all year and get a 4-5 seed come March. The roster will be deep enough and versatile.

I have to think that his parents/family/whatever are driving this bus and are forcing him to do this. Otherwise it makes no sense. His colleagues at McD are going to college. Garland is going to Vandy. Naz Reid is going to freaking LSU. It’s not like he dominated the McD game or anything. His game is far from pro ready especially from a strength standpoint. Nice talent sure but come on.

My concern is we replace Battle with Carey and the offense doesn’t change much. We’ll still lack a post presence, so the offense will struggle again. Bazley would have made things flow better in the open court along with Carey. Dolezaj and Brissett don’t handle the ball well or finish often on breaks. One impact player can make such a difference.
