Dabo firing back at tampering

Can Clemson sue Ole Miss for tortious interfence with an existing contract and win? [I know, anyone can sue anyone.] This has been mentioned in the Duke-Mensah case re Miami but the direct evidence of tampering may not exist there as it does here. Will we end up with multiple universities suing other universities on similar tampering issues? When a revenue sharing or NIL contract has a buyout does that negate or mitigate any claim of tortious interfence? Anyone have any thoughts on these questions?

Is the only (and maybe easiest) solution for the NCAA to declare that any athlete who violates a signed contract by going to another school is ineligible to play? Would state course uphold that?

You guys need to know that SU is on top of this. It's a total cesspool and the government needs to step in.
kcsu what does "on top of this" mean? That they're ready to move (sue?) if a school pulled this with one of our signed players?

How does this even work? The kid is sitting in “physics for poets”class texting with Golding. Kid decides he’s leaving for Ole Miss, does he go in and talk to Dabo and let him know? Or did he just leave and text that the buyout check is in the mail from Ole Miss? Crazy. I just listened to Dabo’s run down of the events!
Unbelievable

I do agree that we need to get this under wraps but if the contract had a buyout clause and Ole Miss paid for it well despite it being sleazy not sure what they did wrong? Yes it’s tampering but not enforced, it’s a big joke and the buyout clause is there. This is like taking a new job and a better one comes along on your first day on the new job! Nothing to do with cheating on your wife on the honeymoon.
I will tell you the Physics for Poets midterm is no joke.

SU and many other schools are fed up and I 100% expect that Dabo has led the way for others to publicly call others out. Huge and important move by Dabo who I have always respected.
Same on the respect for Dabo, I generally root for them outside of Syracuse games. Also, I know people here wanted Fran to be a little more outspoken with our own situation, but I wonder if he knew this battle was coming (it sounded like a lot of talk was going on behind the scenes between coaches, commissioners, ADs, etc.) Dabo is a two time national champion and a head coach in the business for a decade and a half, it makes much more sense and may actually have better chance of leading to change with Dabo leading the charge.

Probably, which means his agent is a dirtbag too. Reading the article on the Athletic, though, makes it sound like Golding texted the player and it paints a really bad picture of Golding, the two-faced agent, and, most surprising, the kid and his family. The player looks really bad here. These are the type of reputation and trust killing actions people will question about him going forward.

The agent is exactly the type of agent that gives agents a bad name.

Kudos to Dabo and his staff for keeping a tight timeline on all the communications and documenting them. This detailed transparency is exactly what was needed to expose the crooked underbelly of the portal.
Yeah and before the usual board posters who say coaches have been doing similar. Fans have called coaches out as well. Agree the player, players family, agent and Golding are all pos in this story.

the agent basically extorted Clemson -- told Dabo if they guaranteed a second year that they would turn in all the evidence on Ole Miss. Clemson took it all, went to the ACC and the SEC. They're just the only ones willing to turn in another school.
“Extortion? Come on now. Nothing wrong with a little quid pro quo.” - the agent, probably

As we (SU) should be. The optics point to other programs seeing us as a place to raid. If we can't defend against outsiders poaching the young talent that we have identified, then we are forever going to be spinning our wheels. I hope we are closer to the Dabo mindset than the Golding's and the Cristobal's.

Ole Miss and Golding are completely out of control. I would love to see them implode this season. Karma please do your thing
Low character players and organizations tend to falter under adverse circumstances. Here’s hoping they see some tough times early next season.

From this new article it sounds like Clemson has made a formal complaint to the NCAA. It has been discussed with ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey "has been loped in". The article discusses possible penalties to Ole Miss. We shall see if there's anything left to enforcement of the rules by the NCAA. In addition to any sanctions against Ole Miss, I think the best threat of enforcement is to declare the player ineligible. There might be a question of the manner he received the funds from Ole Miss that would bring that into play.

As a former car salesman some of these takes are a little funny. Like, nobody cares about their word or a contract anymore. Yet that’s exactly how a lot of people go about buying their cars. Playing one dealer against another, committing to buying a vehicle than calling right before delivery and saying you got a better deal. And on and on and on.

I know it’s different…… because it’s a college player doing it.

Think your analogy holds up better for the verbal commit situation rather than once a contract is in place. That’s been unsavory but part of the game. Now we’re into taking players off an active roster and that’s much worse IMO.

Congress may finally step if if some of these bigger programs start complaining and exposing the problem. Hopefully Dabo is only the first.
Without congress acting there is not much the ncaa can do. Congress is inept but any regulation and rules is better than nothing at this point.
Agreed, but while Clemson is the victim that may get action, we’ve personally seen USC east as perpetuators. What is a rep from SC to do?

Golding is a scumbag, Fran played nice because the TE didn’t want to be here and Fran was able to keep him from going back to SC by going to Ole Miss and I am sure we were paid for it. If Golding came after Samuels I am guessing Fran wouldn’t say he’s a good dude

No this is crap. He wanted to be here when he signed and committed to Syracuse he only didn't want to be here when he was tampered with and got a better offer
