I’ve lived all my life in North Syracuse. MY mother taught agt the High school in the 60’s and 70’s. North Syracuse, (as it was then: no ‘Cicero’) had the largest school district in the area and, I believe, at one time in the state but we could never seem to beat out Jamesville DeWitt in football. Then in the 70’s the citizens of the of the district started voting down budgets, one after the tother and kept the school system on austerity for years. We had one moment of glory with Mandel Robinson, (brother of local TV anchor Jackie Robinson), who shown bright enough to get awarded #44 when he attended SU, where he was a disappointment and eventually transferred to Wyoming. For years afterward we were a complete irrelevancy in football and most other sports. Meanwhile our closest geographical rival, Liverpool high School, was approving budgets and emphasizing athletics – and football. They became a powerhouse. One year the newspaper listed local high schoolers who had received athletic scholarships to college and Liverpool had 72 and North Syracuse had 3. For a time Cicero, (which opened in the early 70’s) and North Syracuse had separate teams but eventually the schools and teams were combined into Cicero-North Syracuse, (and the old North Syracuse High School became a Junior High or “middle school”). That didn’t improve the results on the football field all that much, even though the field at CNS was perhaps the best in the area. But in the last few years, things have changed remarkably. The most obvious change was that former Henninger Coach Dave Kline was hired to coach the team in 2016. But I’m sure many things have been done behind the scenes to give him a chance to build the success we have been having. I thought I’d document his achievements thusfar, using information for this site: Teams - Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars Football (Cicero, NY) 2016 Henninger 20-15 Liverpool 34-0 Auburn 27-6 Nottingham 38-6 Baldwinsville 20-7 Utica Proctor 42-22 Henninger 41-21 (Section III quarter-finals) Corcoran 28-6 (Section III semi-finals) CBA 14-27L (Section III championship game) 8-1-0 250-110 (28-12) 2017 Fairport 42-14 Horseheads 61-0 Liverpool 41-0 Auburn 54-7 Nottingham 49-6 Baldwinsville 67-31 Utica Proctor 53-14 CBA 61-7 (Section III quarter-finals) Corcoran 41-7 (Section III semi-finals) Baldwinsville 56-21 (Section III finals) Elmira Southside 57-14 (State quarter-finals) Lancaster 21-35L (State Semifinals) 11-1 603-156 (50-13) 2018 CBA 47-6 Liverpool 28-3 Rome Free Academy 43-7 Fayetteville-Manlius 35-21 West Genesee 27-10 Baldwinsville 41-7 Utica Proctor 53-20 Henninger 48-6 (Section III quarter-finals) Fayetteville-Manlius 46-7 (Section III semi-finals) West Genesee 40-0 (Section III championship) Elmira Southside 42-20 (State quarter-finals) Aquinas Institute 21-28L (State Semi-finals) 11-1 471-135 (39-11) 2019 CBA 22-0 Liverpool 0-10L Rome Free Academy 27-34L Fayetteville-Manlius 29-8 West Genesee 21-10 Baldwinsville 35-28 Utica Proctor 0-32L Henninger 28-6 (Section III quarter-finals) Liverpool 35-28 (Section III semi-finals) Utica Proctor 28-25 (Section III Championship) Corning-Painted Post 24-22 (State quarter-finals) McQuaid-Jesuit 28-42L (State semi-finals) 8-4 277-245 (23-20) 2020 Baldwinsville 35-0 Henninger 41-6 Nottingham 48-0 3-0 124-6 (41-2) 2021 Clifton 13-32L Nottingham 37-8 Utica Proctor 33-6 Baldwinsville 40-7 Liverpool 14-21L Corcoran 34-0 Rome Free Academy 41-7 (Section III quarter-finals) Liverpool 17-0 (Section III semi-finals) Baldwinsville 35-21 (Section III championship) Corning-Painted Post 20-16 (State quarter-finals) Bennett/Olmstead/Middle Early College/East 0-38L (State Semi-finals) 8-3 284-156 (26-14) 2022 Horseheads 42-14 Monroe-Woodbury 28-14 CBA 41-42L Baldwinsville 41-19 Henninger 44-22 Liverpool 36-0 Rome Free Academy 43-7 Utica Proctor 42-14 Henninger 54-14 (Section III quarter-finals) Baldwinsville 21-7 (Section III semi-finals) CBA 34-20 (Section III championship) 10-1 426-173 (39-16) Totals: 59-11 (84%) 2235-981 (32-14) Dave is now 4-0 in re-matches in the Section II playoffs with teams that beat him durigngtnhe regular season. He’s also 4-0 against Section 4 champions. Now if he can only get by those big, bad teams from the Rochester and Buffalo areas and get to the state finals!
