Day Eight Spring Football Practice Thursday 3/10/16 7:30

"You learned football on Xbox where you could actually choose your team and control your players," Babers said. "You grew up in a visual age. That's how we teach these guys, is the way they grew up. We don't make them read, which is the way we grew up."

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard on practice tempo: "It's like nothing I've ever seen before. It's faster than a 2-minute drill, all practice."

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard said his personal goal for the season is to be one of the top freshman DEs in the ACC and/or country

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard: "As a team, we want to leave the old Syracuse reputation behind us. This is a new era of Syracuse football."

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard: Babers hasn't said he wants a new era; the feel comes naturally. Simply put: ". . . . is changing around here."

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard on the scrimmage: "I think we did as well as we thought we were going to do." 124 plays/4 DEs. "It was crazy."

Syracuse rFr. DE Jake Pickard declined to name the first-team d-line, but listed rSo. DT Chris Slayton as a standout performer

Jake has some lofty goals. Frankly, we are gonna need him to be almost as good as he hopes to be, to be competitive along the DL.

Also Slayton doesn't surprise me. That dude screamed NFL potential from the moment we got his LOI. He and Clark are going to make a formidable duo for us on the inside.

I circled that quote to. Pretty cutting edge for the old fogeys

But reading is visual

Both these guys are going to be very, very good over the next three years, and while I have high hopes for them this year, I can't wait until their senior years. They should be dynamite.

I agree. Babers understands the generation. He's not saying these kids cant read. He just want to use their strengths and uniquness. He is a old head who understand the new school. Thats hard to do. Duke's Coach K's commercials shows more than people think. His grandson messaging with emoji's. Its not a inner city/lower class , suburban/upper class thing. Its a generation thing.

But what if a player never played Xbox?

lol. Im sure you know he was just using XBOX as an example.

Come on man, go with it.

I know some feel that Babers may be somewhat arrogant when answering questions, but I think he's to the point and without fluff, and I love that.
i do not think he is arrogant at all. i like that he speaks to the point. i like it a lot more that he says little with no bravado, and we are family stuff.

He answers questions with smiles.

He clearly has no problem with the press - he seems to enjoy the banter.

And that's because he is obviously comfortable in his role and with himself.
