Day Five Spring Football Practice 3/3/16 7:30

Good to see you back! A little birdie told me that Steven is going to be a superstar of the ACC assuming Babers can recruit a cast of supporting players for him. I am very glad he stayed with SU!
I'm glad he's staying, too. He's got a lot of friends on that team. They're all pretty good kids, even the "hop heads" =D

"We got some guys that can make some plays, which is interesting," Babers said following Thursday's practice, the fifth of 15 sessions this spring, "but we have to be a lot more physical. We have to get a lot more numbers out there. Our numbers are down so low that it hurts us sometimes in getting the amount of reps and being able to go at the speed we want to go at."

Have they ever had numbers? I feel like I've heard every coach complain about it just about every season. Crazy.

Well, you have to figure every Spring that pretty much every team is only going to have 60 scholarship players at most due to 20-25 leaving the program every year for graduation alone. So yeah, I would think that the "numbers" are going to be low for Spring practice every year. I know that they could have walkons to boost the numbers a little, but those aren't the ones you want getting all the reps typically anyway.

With the injuries we have and the early departures we're probably around 50-55 kids right now though. So far lower than usual. We also don't have a ton of walkons. I'd expect that will change going forward.

I hope not. If your allowing the teams ahead to us (which is a bunch) to recruit an extra 5 players then that dips into our talent pool dramatically. Were talking spring practice here.

SU would benefit from having roster sizes shrink not grow.

If thats the case lets shrink it to 75/22 and to hell with spring games
