Day Four Spring Football Practice 3/1/16 7:30

I think it definitely falls on Hicks, which would be one of the reasons he is in a different position for the University now. However, if you didn't have the "background" knowledge that we have on this board, I don't think you would make that connection. We, myself included, have not been overly impressed with the S/C portion of our program for quite some time, so we are looking for that connection. I think most people would just take that answer at face value.

You should just watch the video. It's clear in how Bailey phrased the question.

They are all empty calories realistically, some juices are better than others like Orange/pulp > Applejuice. Gatorade G2 is ok I think, sugar free I believe.

If I remember correctly from past articles on Strength & Conditioning, Marrone & Shafer (& Hicks) were more concerned with metrics (i.e. max bench, squat, etc...). That does not necessarily equate to better performance on the field. It also increases the chance for injury if you are more concerned with beating your bench press max than using proper form.

Question:

There were a fair amount of shoulder injuries that needed to be taken care of in the off season. Was there anything that you thought went into that with past training or things of that nature?

Answer:

Babers confirms there were a lot but wont comment on anything specific. Said it could’ve been a ‘happening’ but they’ll build up that part of the muscle and hope it doesn’t 'happen' again.

You can just as easily get hurt going too fast at a lighter weight as you can by going too heavy. The only way to ensure form would be to watch every kid which is hard with 85 of them. That or don't lift at all.

Hicks at NC State 1996-2000 basically on the way out when Chuck Amato became coach in 2000. Football team was basically a .500 team that underperformed and was saddled with injuries. Had a couple of good years 2 years after Hicks left with Rivers at QB under Amato. I wasn't overly impressed when Hicks got hired. Thought he was better than what we had but not by much. We have had a ton of injuries each year ever since.

I'm no nutritionist, but are juices and Gatorade really that much different from sodas, minus the carbonation?

Juice at least has some nutritional content. Soda is about as empty a calorie as you're going to find.

But yes both have a lot of Sugar if that's where you're going.

yeah I only drink the G2...so much sugar and empty calories in the reg. Water is the best though.

or teach them proper mechanics and make sure that it is emphasized...that's one way too.

Could easily be from poor benching form...this is the most common mistake most lifters make.
Or going too heavy too often without devoting enough time to the rotator cuff and lats. If you push you must also pull.

And cleans
What specifically about cleans? Are you saying that doing cleans leads to shoulder injuries or that poor form on cleans is one of the most common mistakes new lifters make?

Plenty of short videos, images and sounds being shared as well as interviews which is nice so far.

A proper clean uses a shrug with locked elbow, but it's mostly a leg exercise. I good clean will cause your feet to come of the ground slightly and then you "get under the bar". Pulling weight up in an upright row motion, like many do with a clean, can cause impingement in the shoulder.

Impingement? I think I had that after some bad Taco Bell last night, I did a solid clean though and felt much better.
