Day Fourteen Fall Camp: Tues., August 15, 2017

Another good reason to engage brain before posting.

Haha to be fair I was wondering how that deal works and IF we pay for some or any or what-have-you. I just always go back to the Requiem for the Big East 30 for 30 when Boeheim said Nike paid him more than SU did to ensure his team was outfitted in Nike

I believe the Nike package is something in the way of roughly $3 million in gear to the school, which gives them exclusive rights to sell SU licensed merchandise, thus recouping on that investment. Other aspects of the deal include the Nike camps, etc., but, I have no idea how those are accounted for. Be interesting to see as this deal expires in the next few years, what happens. Several programs that I would believe are above ours in stature, UCLA, Michigan, ND, have signed huge contracts with UA, etc. We should fall under them, but still get a bump.

Under Armor has been performing terribly. As a company and stock. Dont hold your breath about a big payout from them

Agreed. I have been following that, given my proximity to Baltimore. They have spent big on college athletics over the last several years and gained some sponsorships with bigger programs. Wisconsin, Auburn, ND, Northwestern, TTU, Utah, BC. The fact that UA has a cuse grad in a position of power, makes me think maybe they make a play for us? If nothing else, wouldn't be bad to create a bidding war.

This was posted elsewhere but wanted to repost it here, as it shows where we stand in the pecking order. Middle of the pack surrounded by some teams that I would think should be higher. Clemson and USC for starters. Rutgers bringing up the rear.

Alabama at 26? Sheesh...

And not a single comment (until now) about the traditional color set!?

This should be our home uniform. End if story. Bag the grey, or whatever that band color is.

I can't imagine they spend any money on uniforms. I would guess Nike foots that bill, no?

Seriously? Teams spend 10's of thousands of $$$ on unis. No matter who you are.

Unless you have a contract with one of the 3 providers.

I have read that all college football teams pay for their unis. Makes sense, otherwise, how do the bid 3 make their $$$? This isnt the NFL. Millions don't flock to buy college jerseys.

Take a look at that Nike swoosh. Advertising. I didn't say they were free, but they don't cost as much as one would think.

Ok, ty for the insight, but i just wonder just how the big 3 are making hay then. Bc there arent an army of kids buying dunget jerseys, even franciois jerseys for that matter. Interesting learn on the economics of the game.

We just smile and take their money :D

And hopefully, the next contract isn't with Nike.

True, didn't like the style and approach for this last series of unis. Any insight as to the direction we might be headed? UA is the obvious choice?

No clue. Above my pay grade.

Nike is the absolute top of the line in both equipment & apparel. Being a Nike school is a positive & something we can use to our advantage. IMO, it's worth making a bit less than we would with UA or (cringe) Adidas.
Though hopefully we can improve the terms. But generally yeah. Non-Nike providers look second rate.

I say we push for the jump man!

Nike, UA, and Adidas I would guess pay these big dollars to schools so that they have the official license to see all the gear to the fans. Obviously our nike deal isn't great but a TON of people by Syracuse/Nike items.

When you see Syracuse stuff made by say UA - UA has to pay Nike and Syracuse fees to sell items as well

In 2013, we were the 31st ranked university in licensed apparel sales, beating out UCLA, Duke, Miami and several other big names. Sometimes, we don't give SU enough respect.

No doubt SU's got some market appeal, which I believe gives the school more leverage in saying to Nike: "We're willing to walk after this deal, but we could be persuaded to stay if [XYZ financial terms] and you design us jerseys that say Syracuse first and Nike second rather than these generic Ohio State/Florida/Arizona knockoffs, allow us flexibility to replace hideous unreadable football uniforms, etc."

Anyone know how or why the women's field hockey team wore UA at one point over the last several seasons? Perhaps our contact with Nike didn't include every olympic sport, so maybe that changes in the next go around as well.
