Day One Spring Football Practice 2/23/16 7:30 am

Which questions did he ask?
He wanted to know what HCDBs thoughts were on a 4-8 team after one practice. Made sure to mention that they were 4-8, and was he surprised by the talent or concerned. He kinda gave him a "well football is played in pads so I don't know yet," answer, and Bud preceded to ask it again in a different way. Just the tone bothered me. Like why don't you just say, this team sucks, do you regret the job already?

Isn't there some theater closing somewhere where Bud can wax poetic about?

Funny thing is, I didn't know that was his question after I watched, but after seeing your post, had a strong feeling that was the one he asked.

Lol. did you see when HCDB answered Bud's stupid question, and the subsequent stupid questions, you can tell he is already starting to realize the quality of reporter Syracuse has.

The last one was a doozy. He didn't phrase it this way but what he meant by it was "Can you tell me what I should write about in my column because I haven't done and don't plan to do any work on my own to get there?" Boy, I'd love to have a job where I can phone it in for 25 years and not get fired.

Call me crazy, but I recall that Greg Robinson thought the same thing and made the change. One of Marrone's first moves was to go back to the Mac/Pasqualoni red/green scheme.

EDIT - this is why we read the full thread before responding...

Haha...I am amazed about how knowledgeable people are about the practice jerseys.

haha...I was thinking the same thing.

Physically, Dungey looks like a different player.

I worked in the Virgin Islands on St. John a couple of summers, and there was a guy with a taxi pickup that played Santana...all...the...time.

Post practice interviews.

Dungey has clearly grown up a bit since the fall - even after just a few months he seems older and more mature. He even noticed that it seems like he has been around a long time, but has really only been on campus for six months. Hard to believe.

Steve Ishmael seems very excited about Babers and the offense.

Coach Babers continues to exhibit strength and a quiet confidence that is very impressive.

Again, he is clearly in control and knows what he wants to do.

Love Dungey's interview. Very poised and mature.

He's definitely been in the weight room...even his neck is much bigger.

A little snarky in his responses. Seems on edge.I hope he doesn't develop an antagonistic relationship with the media. Just answer the questions the way they were intended. Its part of the job, silly questions and all. Its just the first day of practice, take a deep breath and enjoy the ride.

I don't get the impression he's on edge at all.

His answers are given with a smile. He seems very relaxed to me.

In fact, he seems no different than he seemed during the various Bowling Green press conferences I watched after we learned that he had been hired.

He appears to get along well with the press.

It's coach speak and that's how he should deal with the media. He isn't looking to make friends and be BFF's with the reporters like Shafer was but he isn't a total a-hole like Marrone was. This is how a "real" football head coach handles the media.

If it helps, most of the short answers that are probably what you're calling snarky, were in response to Bud's questions.

Best to plant that flag early.

Bud isn't getting better with age. I'm the really tolerant type but found myself writing to the PS asking that they reassign him or give him a long sabbatical. He's bitter and writing to an audience that expired a while ago. He needs a change...

Just seemed irritated by the whole thing. Its a long journey and the first day he seemed to be giving the, 'shove it' type answers. Nothing to do with 'real coaches'. I know a lot of coaches that just answer the questions then move on without the 'tude'.

Along with his fancy word writing style, my big issue is you can tell when he doesn't really want to be covering an event. Pretty sure it was column on last year's spring game that basically went on and on about how much of a waste of time it was.

I think it's a throwback to Coach Mac days. Some of the board historians can correct me if I'm wrong, but Coach Mac used green and red jerseys, and when Marrone came back he went back to it.

If memory serves me right, any practice I've been to it's been green and red regardless of coach until Babers.

You've completely removed the GRob days from your memory ... well done, well done.

I have not got there yet, and remember him questioning the red/green saying, "Our team colors are Orange and Blue" we will wear our team colors at practice.

when he said change the entire program, he meant the entire program :)

They now use charmin ultra soft instead of the hardnosed (raw assed) one ply prison brand
