Day Six Fall Camp: Sat. August 5, 2017

I get that hope springs eternal, but last year we didn't even really ever use a full back, we're talking about a true freshman, and this thread is throwing out all-time NFL and college great as comps. It's hilarious.

It cracks me up how every so often during camp the board gets all hot and bothered over a fullback and the guy ends up barely playing and never sees the ball once things really matter. Everybody may as well have their fun though this time of year.
It's called preseason optimism and there's nothing wrong with it Ebenezer.

Think it's a good situational option, we lose a Xtra WR by putting a FB in but like to have options.
Yes. He's a good option, but I don't think he's going to see the field from the 50 on 1st and 10 every series. He's a goal line guy + a wrinkle.

I think you are right about not really using a FB last year. I don't think they will use one much this year either. I can't speak for the others, but I'm guessing, and it's all guess work, that Elmore might be able to contribute as something other than a traditional FB this year.

Did we have a good one to use? If Dino sees fit to recruit a 280 lb guy to play a skill position, he may be worth talking about. And yes, we should have our fun this time of year. That's what sports are about.

Uh, yeah, I get it. I'm the one that started a Dungey for Heisman campaign before the beginning of last season.

Just the renewed faith in the fullback is particularly funny. I mean, usually a fullback is a guy that's a fat guy with a fat guy's game, but that isn't quite fat enough to be on the line. And yet we see time and again posters talk themselves into how much of a difference maker we have there. And it's always a diamond in the rough.

I'd make a joke about how the only thing funnier than overhyping a fullback is overhyping a punter, but, given the board, well..

I'm not attacking having fun this time of year. I'm observing that some of the fun people are having is funny. There's a nuance there if people aren't taking themselves too seriously.

Teams aren't really "g0ing small to match up" as much as they are walking out the Sam and Will to take away the perimeter and quick passing game. Most teams handled out run game with only 5 in the box, leaving 6 to cover 4 or 5.
Ok. Maybe we can punish teams for sneaking guys out of the box.

Or maybe teams will choose to play smaller, if we throw short less often this year and force guys to cover farther down field.

Until he catches a swing pass, gets up a head of steam and absolutely scream rolls some defenders. Never know, but I think the offensive coaches carve something special out for him. Plus we have no beef in the backfield otherwise.

It isn't often that you see a video of a 280 lb guy that looks fluid and natural catching the ball then see a video of the same guy blocking a DT. Is it only a meaningless glimpse during preseason practice? Probably. But why not imagine the possibility of having a guy that could be a matchup problem for other teams because of his size and potential versatility. Why do you have to be a killjoy so often?

Here, I'll get on board with you. I can't believe the meathead coaches that still use fullbacks and run anything other than 4 and 5 WR sets. And why does anyone waste a scholarship on a punter? Don't football coaches know you can't score by punting?

Yeah..we didn't have a fullback last year..probably why we didn't use a fullback. We might have a fullback this year. Count me in as one who is excited he may be effective. We can throw shade on FB's all we want, but ask opposing coaches what they thought of Tony Fiametta. He played for some bad teams, but that guy made coaches gameplan just for him

I'm surprised you dont have him leaving early for the NFL...
