Some notes-

Like most teams, Dayton appears to be much deeper than us. They also seem to be OK shooting from deep. I think we are very evenly matched. I think lost in all of the discussion about simply being in the tournament (rightly so) is the fact this really isn't an ideal matchup imo. A lot of what we hope for is playing a team that is not familiar with our defense. Well, this team is.

We are slightly better according to Kenpom. About a 1.5 point favorite. Win this game and the seasons a success IMO.

They're a really bad offensive team (160th in KP, the only teams in the field worse than them are AQ's) but a really good defensive team.

One thing I always look at for an opponent of ours is how they do on the offensive glass; Dayton is below 200th so it's possible they won't kill us there. I'm guessing a score close to the game in 2014 (55-53), let's hope we're on the right side of it this time

Win this game and the season is a smashing success. I did not have high expectations for this team back in November. In my mind they already succeeded beyond my expectations. But you are right, they win this game holy cow!!!

I'm fairly confident we will make more than one shot outside of the paint, too.

Call me crazy, but I think this is a game Coleman should get a lot of run (if he can).

As usual, if we are going to win Roberson has to show up on the glass!

Now would be a good time to work on some low post plays we haven't done this year so we have something different to do on offense. I think our offense got to be predictable at times. I think it's best when there's lots of motion.

I would love to see G take over the game with 30+ point effort. That would be pretty cool too!

Honestly this is a terrible matchup, they have the prerequisite of 3 guys that can shoot the three at a high percentage to space out the zone, and on top of that, clutch and grab tight man pressure on the other end. Glad to get in but this one is going to be down to the wire.

We have G. I think G is a legitimate NBA talent. Does Dayton have any real talent? But you are right, our team has to play well but that's always true.

Is or is NOT familiar with our defense? If yes, how are they familiar?

We played them two years ago.

Two years ago is a long time and they probably have lots of new players. If they are making lots of 3s on us we are in trouble for any team.

We lost to St. Johns but some of the Dayton losses are pretty bad. It's probably a 50-50 bet on who is going to win.

It's a toss up game. I've watched Dayton a couple times. They are VERY similar to the team two years ago. Expect a dogfight. But hey...we can't really complain about our draw this year! Let's just enjoy the week and be glad we have some basketball to watch Friday!!! GO CUSE!

From this point forward, the only stats I care about are our opponents rebounding stats. That alone is 85% of the game.

Dayon is a smallish team. They have one guy over 6''6 who plays much at all. However Pierre at 6'6 plays much bigger than his listed height. Classic undersized volleyball player potential vs our zone.

We played them two years ago.

Yes we did. And despite our 25-0 start that year, the last 10 games prior to the match-up we were shooting at a .388 clip and giving it up at .419 clip. That year Dayton was hitting overall at a .463 clip and defending at a .435 percentage for the year. The 2014 game played out to our stats precisely, we shot at 38.9% (zero for 10 from three) and they shot (or we defended) at a 41.6% (which included 7-16 from three).

Last 10 games this year, we have shot at a .445 clip and defended at a .431 percentage. This year the Flyers are shooting it a .460 clip (including .347 from three) and defending at a .403 percentage for the year (.349 from three). But in their last 10 games, they are only shooting at .429 clip overall, .304 percentage from three while defending at a .422 clip overall and .352 from three.

Something seems off with them, even though they won 6 of those 10 games. It appears they only won 1 game comfortably, the other 5 were won by 3 points or less. Which most of us would probably chalk up to their style, but their prior 8 wins in conference were by 6 points or more - six of them by double digits.

Of course none of the above may matter in the long run. That is why they play the games.

I think that if we make 8 or more threes in that game without taking more than 22, we can win this game.

Cheers,
Neil

They don't shoot that well from deep, don't rebound particularly well, and are not very big. We defend the three well and have two guys who should be able to get in the lane on drives.

I think Vegas has it right.

So predictions on which of their bench guys goes off from three?

Xeyrius Williams looks to be that guy to me. I'll guess 5/8.

None of those guys have made over 45 on the season. They don't shoot a high volume.

Probably Darrell Davis, who comes off the bench. He's hitting them at less than a .300 percentage, but we know the story. We will focus on Cooke and Smith and someone else will have a career night from three.

Cheers,
Neil

We have to hope Pollard is still limited, as he's a solid player for them. They have a 6'11" freshman that I'm sure will be the guy that kills us inside.

I don't think they're that great defensively, at least lately. They've allowed 74+ in 6 of their last 10. Kenpom likes them, but they've played some offensive dogs this year. They are good on D, and we all know how much we struggle offensively, so it will be a slog, probably in the 50's.

WE'RE THE BETTER FREE THROW SHOOTING TEAM!!!! Foul anybody outside of Pierre and they're bound to miss at least one.

FWIW. My brother who works at Vandy went to the Dayton/Vandy game earlier in the year. Now Vandy has a couple of NBA players on their roster (according to Chad Ford) but he was really impressed with how quick, athletic, and physcial Dayton was. Vintage Dayton with Miller I guess. He said that they have no stiffs and it seemed like they all contribute.
