Devon Clarke, Cordy, Scoop, Coley, Mulf, Dowels will all help. Expect to see Stritzinger moved to safety if he doesnt transfer. I also expect 2 jucos or transfers

Secondary will be a lot better. The LB's are the area that scare me. Losing 4 guys is going to sting next year. Not sold on Armstrong being the rock as Zaire's replacement as he looked like deer in headlights in some games earlier in the year. I can see why the staff is looking at JUCO's.

armstrong will start in 1 slot whether its mlb or outside

I would expect Frederick and Bradshaw to hang on to their starting jobs. It will be interesting to see who the backups outside of Dowels are. Safety is an interesting position. Cordy can play either spot so the second best player should play regardless of position. So who will be the second best safety, Foster, Melifonwu or does someone else step up. Ellison and Williams are career backups in my eyes.

Im actually growing more confident about lb

Armstrong looks like a slow safety to me. he got ran over a few times yesterday.

We can survive with bradshow/frederick at corner, but you need 2 more you can trust and more likely 3 to survive the year. Foster looks hurt right now and so does Williams, I dont think our starting 5-6 safeties made it thru the year and only 1 corner made it. Thats a recipe for disaster and its showing now. but we add 6-7 bodies and almost all of them are an uptick in speed.

Why would Stritz transfer? He saw special teams in a bunch of games as a true freshman.

I have no inside information, but I have no expectation that Clarke will ever play for Syracuse.

Is Cordy as good as the board thinks he is? He's been hurt the last two years, so it's still not clear if he fits in the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hudson and/or Dowels move on as grad transfers.

I have high expectations for Melifonwu. I really don't know what to expect with Coley.

I'd expect an experienced player to come in via JUCO or grad transfer, but I think we've seen from the staff that they prefer to develop, so a one year grad transfer rental seems more likely to me.

if you surrender a 1/2 dozen plays of 30 + yds a game then speed is obviously an issue.

I work with someone who played with Coley, he said he was by far the best athlete on the field in every game. I know it's section 3 but I have pretty high expectations for him.

you dont give a coaches kid a scholie unless you think he can play. JB didnt do it and his kid is starting at the D1 level and he wouldnt have cost us a roster spot. the film i saw of Coley he looked really smooth. did he run track in the spring or play another sport?

Honestly, I think LB will be fine. The group in there now (Zaire, Paris, JT) were meant to fit int Shafer's blitzing defense. They are the exact opposite prototype that Ward will typically look for. I think Richards, Fagan, Armstrong, and the group of LB's we have brought in the last 2 seasons will be better fits for Ward's defense. They will lose experience, but on field talent may improve. For as much as we all love Zaire and Paris, they have been non-existent the last 2 games.

There is more that goes into giving a schollie then that. There are a lot of things that non-scholarship players can't do. They can't get meals and other allowances scholarship players are given. I don't think it's that easy for him just to be a walk-on

Dowels played this year and struggled. Scoop is a good player. We'll see about the rest

I think the whole prototype is overrated. If you're a good LB, you're a good LB. We still play a 4-3.

Ya, but there is a big difference between a blitzing LB, and one that is required to drop in coverage. Zaire and Paris are much better at one of those.

and its not option b

Considering the fact that he will be a true freshman, this still looks pretty good:

My favorite recruit in the whole class. Kid is a solid 6'2 210 as well. I stood next to him at the Dome. I am sure if he didn't tear his ACL last year he would have had many more offers.

Love fredericks, melinfinwu looks like a stud with size. Cordy isnt the answer.he gets lit up in coverage and I am over , way over any safery under 5'10".

I am hearing canada lb is replacement for Zaire as he has same speed but is 6'3" @235 and Fagan is other one who i fast and ferocious. Lets see on Armstrong. He seems to be less downhill than i would like. Our height alone will improve drastically next year. Im worried about secondary more. Need speed speed

Serious question, does the DB coach have any clue what he's doing. The guy seems to coach down these guys. Is he just some recruiting guy who happens to coach DBs? Truly the worst DB play i've seen in my time watching SU sports.

The lack of depth/talent at DB sure has something to do with it.
Also the growth of Scoop and Frederick have been pretty solid, sure they are not all world. They have had flashes of being ACC level CB's a bunch of times this year and overall I would say they had pretty good seasons.
