DB help next year

I thought our DB play was pretty good for most of the year.

We'll be a much better defense when we can find 2 legit safeties. Have really high hopes for Clarke and Melifonwu and the incoming kid Jonas (once he's a go). Would love to see us go find a JUCO AA type safety

Why would Stritz transfer? He saw special teams in a bunch of games as a true freshman.

I have no inside information, but I have no expectation that Clarke will ever play for Syracuse.

Is Cordy as good as the board thinks he is? He's been hurt the last two years, so it's still not clear if he fits in the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hudson and/or Dowels move on as grad transfers.

I have high expectations for Melifonwu. I really don't know what to expect with Coley.

I'd expect an experienced player to come in via JUCO or grad transfer, but I think we've seen from the staff that they prefer to develop, so a one year grad transfer rental seems more likely to me.

Serious question, does the DB coach have any clue what he's doing. The guy seems to coach down these guys. Is he just some recruiting guy who happens to coach DBs? Truly the worst DB play i've seen in my time watching SU sports.

They looked better this year by a lot. Until the guys they brought in to play S got hurt and we went to the old S who weren't good enough the year before.

I think with rangy S this D is way, way better.

I've been thinking this when I see his name mentioned. Guy first gets arrested but manages to avoid punishment, then finds himself (what is he? ineligible? suspended?) for another semester. Based on the history, best not to count on this kid seeing the field consistently for any period of time.

He's serving a University suspension for his crime (like Billy Edelin did), so he didn't manage to avoid punishment. Probably 99% of kids would've tucked tail and transferred but he didnt. That's why I feel the opposite on this kid.

his staying says a couple things.. One he wants to be here.. Two the coaches want him to be here. The coaches know they have talent issues on the backend. no reason to keep him here if they didnt think he would help the D, just because they could be nice to him.. It was a made to order way to free up a scholie and they didnt go down that road yet. Lets see if he makes it thru the spring ball. He couldnt play but he could practice I would think?

I cant help to feel that way too. He's been here for 2 years. Hasnt played. We have additional guys with talent coming in and none of us know how the coaches feel about Clarke. He could be on 2nd or 3rd strike watch. I have no inside info, just a feeling of uncertainity.

FWIW, he's been at every home game with his jersey on just like the other players who don't dress. He appeared happy and enthusiastic. Perhaps he is on the straight and narrow.

If he's on the sidelines, then did he get to practice? If not, then I can't see him contributing too much too quickly.
