DE Jason Munoz in the transfer portal

Good luck to him. He was 6’3 242 pound dline. I think we are well enough at that size. It will be really interesting to see how Dino nets out in transfers this go around with the 1 time rule. Looking forward to seeing him reel in some talent.

Yeah, now that I think of it, he might not have a great path to PT in the 3-3-5.

If there is one spot that can absorb kids leaving it's DE. Not the end of the world at all.

Makes sense.
One of the deepest position groups, with some legit young talent to have to (try to) beat out for PT.

And unless he was going to show sufficient dedication to S&C to become a DT, then he was looking at a long wait for a chance to play.

Munoz was a highly rated player. Monroe got him to flip after a coaching change. Would have been a good player in the future.
Problem now is this is going to be the norm. Kid not on the two deep even as a freshman he’s going to transfer. It’s going to be a revolving door at all programs until they realize there cannot be automatic transfers. This is ncaa fault because of their inability to be consistent.
The other impact is it going to prevent kids from graduating. At least when you were at one school there was a plan and path to graduation. When you transfer all your units may to be excepted at new school. School may not have their major. Could affect credits. In the end the player educationally will suffer.
Unfortunately I expect at least 5-8 more players on the current roster to enter the portal. May be as high as 12-15.

Was this the kid with supposedly some kind of weight problem. He got really skinny?
If my memory serves correct, he was stated to be much heavier at one point in his recruiting profiles and then suddenly weighed a lot less. It was stated by some Miam fans I think that he had some kind of health issue at one point which must have been during his senior year of high school I think or something. The exact medical condition was never ever elaborated on by anyone on any boards that I know of. I was alway hoping that weight would get put back on and he'd be in the DT rotation.

The 2 players we picked up last second (Summers and Munoz) after the school they originally committed to didn't want them haven't come anywhere close to the field. Hope the staff keeps that in mind for the future

I'm sure it's always a consideration and prob was with these two. A flyer is a flyer.

I would be shocked if it reached double digits. Every school is going to have kids enter the portal. It's been happening for the last few years. We just have to hope as Cuse fans, that the ones who do are ones that have been passed on the depth chart.

This does a good job of pointing out some of the negatives, but leaves off all of the positives for players and schools. It's a trade off, no?

I think he was verbaled to Miami at one time, then something happened and he wasn't and then he verbaled here. When that happened, Miami fans said they didn't want him any longer and that he had lost too much weight to be of interest to them.

I think it was sour grapes from a spoiled fan base. I know he was listed about 30 pounds heavier than the UM fans said he was when he showed up on campus.

Like others have said, with only 3 DL, it really puts a premium on the DT and DEs to be big and strong. They really need to hold their ground and at least keep the OL blocking them occupied to give the LBs and secondary a chance to make tackles for minimum gains.

We could get away with 250 lb DEs with the old scheme. I don't think we can any longer. If we can, they have to be really athletic speedsters that would probably be specialists playing in passing situations only.

I hate to see us lose players. Every time we do, it makes it harder for us to get to a place where we have a two deep dominated by seniors and juniors that are physically where we need them to be and know our scheme and their responsibilities really well. We are unlikely to ever recruit better than most of the other schools in our conference. The way we can win is by leveraging experienced players who know their roles really well and have worked hard in the weight room to catch up to their peers at other schools.

In this case, it is probably for the best. Unless Jason can get up to a minimum of 270 pounds, probably more, he is unlikely to ever play here.

He is a casualty of the change in scheme.

What happens when a school has an excessive amount of transfers? Coach gets fired if it will keep them?

Will losing teams have the biggest #'s?

Will the players that will take some time for developement bail on a factory for immediate rewards?

Transfer portal is going to be crazy packed this year, best of luck to this young man.

Does this up another scholarship?

Are teams still limited to a total of 85 for the program?

Can someone restate how the "free" year impacts the numbers?

Also is the max for SU 25 for December and February signing periods for 2021 class?

Thx

is this based on anything or just a guess

With the lack of talent at key positions, I am looking forward to the Cuse hitting the transfer portal hard. Do whatever it takes to avoid future seasons like the mess this year.

yep, the college version of free agency is here, use it
