DE Jason Munoz in the transfer portal

With the lack of talent at key positions, I am looking forward to the Cuse hitting the transfer portal hard. Do whatever it takes to avoid future seasons like the mess this year.

Curious as to what you see as the main contributor to this season? I mean a full third of the team is out and maybe their 3 best NFL prospects. How exactly do you avoid the pandemic?

Transfer portal is going to be crazy packed this year, best of luck to this young man.
Will it be? I don't know. Seems like a really difficult year to make a move.

Doesn't this 1 year special transfer still require them to go through the portal? I would think so.

I think it will, lots of kids probably end up staying places they don’t want instead of sitting out add that to the free year everyone is getting a lot of seniors won’t be welcomed back and looking for a new home.

You watch all these games and I sometimes think we are the only team without an NT with any size.. that NTexas game last night there were half a dozen run stuffers playing NT.

I think he was verbaled to Miami at one time, then something happened and he wasn't and then he verbaled here. When that happened, Miami fans said they didn't want him any longer and that he had lost too much weight to be of interest to them.

I think it was sour grapes from a spoiled fan base. I know he was listed about 30 pounds heavier than the UM fans said he was when he showed up on campus.

Like others have said, with only 3 DL, it really puts a premium on the DT and DEs to be big and strong. They really need to hold their ground and at least keep the OL blocking them occupied to give the LBs and secondary a chance to make tackles for minimum gains.

We could get away with 250 lb DEs with the old scheme. I don't think we can any longer. If we can, they have to be really athletic speedsters that would probably be specialists playing in passing situations only.

I hate to see us lose players. Every time we do, it makes it harder for us to get to a place where we have a two deep dominated by seniors and juniors that are physically where we need them to be and know our scheme and their responsibilities really well. We are unlikely to ever recruit better than most of the other schools in our conference. The way we can win is by leveraging experienced players who know their roles really well and have worked hard in the weight room to catch up to their peers at other schools.

In this case, it is probably for the best. Unless Jason can get up to a minimum of 270 pounds, probably more, he is unlikely to ever play here.

He is a casualty of the change in scheme.
Or maybe the Miami fans were correct. He was listed at 274 pounds when he signed with Miami. He may be a tweener, too small for DT but not quick enough for DE. He actually did sign with Miami, but was released from his NLI after Richt was fired.

Regardless, best of luck to him.

Miami fans said they cut bait with him because he was a DT who lost a ton of weight (from like 270 to 240) ...looks like they were right. Hopefully he’ll find a home at FA or FI U

agreed and the picture painted is that 300 lb kids are to hard to find. I don’t get that feeling when I watch other games.

Does this up another scholarship?

Are teams still limited to a total of 85 for the program?

Can someone restate how the "free" year impacts the numbers?

Also is the max for SU 25 for December and February signing periods for 2021 class?

Thx
Any returning seniors will not count towards the 85 limit. Currently there are now 64 underclassmen potentially returning and a recruiting class of 21. If all return and all commit we are at the 85 limit,

What do you suppose that weight loss was all about? Did he stop taking "supplements?"

300 pound kids are easy to find. 300 pound kids that can handle a double-team and run a 4.9-5.3 40? Not so much. No clue as to what Munoz's measurables are; but being 6'3" and under 250 pounds in a three man front? Not a recipe for success.

Would red shirt juniors count against the 85 since they are technically seniors or only red shirt seniors?

Just read the rule if you have 25 seniors and they all come back you could have 110 players on scholarship next year. That would mean all seniors and red shirt juniors this year do not count against the 85.

isnt there really 2 parts to this.. the kids like SRs get the extra yr.. the other kids get to play and it doesnt count towards their clock but they still count towards the 85 going forward..
