DE Zach Morton transferred to Akron

Bummer.

Yeah, was kinda hoping he'd come back.

Now the only other DL of note we haven't heard about is Roscoe, right?

At least we've got Bear, Black, and KJ returning, which is a fantastic core for our otherwise young DL.

Bummer.
The DEs leaving don't hurt us for 2021 but could for the years beyond.
That said, I think the DEs might have been affected by the change in defensive scheme more than any other position group. Hate to see guys with years in the program leave but the kids want to play and some are just not cut out for the scheme we are using now.

I wish him good luck wherever he ends up.

I am expecting the staff to open up some playing time for younger players on the DL in 2021, to start building an experienced foundation after all the seniors leave. Caleb and Curtis are going to be important pieces in 2022. Look for a couple more DL to step up and get some playing time this year as well. That all starts with spring ball.

I think Drew Tuazama is going to be one of these emerging players. Joe Rondi as well.

With the amount of guys going into the portal growing exponentially each year, I wonder if they are going to have to adjust the 25 newcomer rule. Would think that a 1 in for every 1 out type thing could work. And then you think about it for more than 2 seconds and realize that it would get exploited like crazy and be all out free agency. I'm not sure what a good solution would be but it's gotta be rough for some schools losing 10-15 guys in one offseason on top of graduations.

Don't think he touched the field for us. Our Cass tech guys didn't work out in that class. Best of luck to him.

The reality is was in a tough spot to ever see the field and was using a roster spot that we probably need to turn over and not wait 2 more yrs.

Black, Bear, Jonathan. Harper, Okechukwu, Tuazama potentially backups. Then Roscoe is unknown. I think DL is ok.

I think this tweet has a valid point. Plus some schools may decide to recruit less "project" players and instead recruit from the portal.

Going to be interesting for sure. Wonder if someone becomes the Bill Snyder of the portal like how he built a perennial top 25 program off of all the Kansas Juco kids. Wonder if someone goes all in on the portal and goes half hs kids/half portal kids each year.

Do you mean Curtis Harper? Would he be eligible in 2022 too? That would be outstanding if he has 2 more years of eligibility.

If you check Harper's bio at cuse.com, you'll see that he's going to be a 5th year Senior.

2017: Redshirt
2018: Played
2019: Played 11 games
2020: Played 11 games

Since 2020 doesn't count, he'll have 2021 and 2022 left if he wants to stay that long.

Believe North Texas aren't bringing in any HSers this cycle.

Not a big deal

Proper attention to pounding can pay dividends...

Some of lower end D1 schools are going the route of portal pounding to fill rosters.

Saves them time and a lot of money in recruiting costs, plus allows them to potentially become competitive quicker

Rutgers did it, some of our other peer schools did as well.

We probably should have, however there will come a time that those who portal pound will lose relationships with high school coaches and that could come back to bite them in the ass

Feels risky to me. You're very limited in knowing if the kid is transferring because his opportunity is blocked vs the highschool rep was bigger than what translated to the college game.
