DeAndre "Big Daddy" Kane

Only scary thing with Kane is seeing is 3pt% and FT% numbers... ouch

If he's fine with being a backup point guard, I don't see the harm. He's used to seeing a lot of playing time and having a strong role in the offense, though.

6'4 guard leaving Marshall that put up 15pts and 7 dimes per game this past season. Worth a one year rental from the 5th year rule imo. Backup PG is shaky at best for next season and Kane could fill that void.

jeez I remember seeing this kid in 2006, play against my high school team for the state championship. He played on DaJuan Blair's team+former St. Johns star D.J. Kennedy. Kane was a sophomore, so he's gotta be ancient by now! Maybe he finally wants to play for a winning team.

I think the first time I saw him play was back in 08 at the Pitt Jamfest. His squad played against Team Final and he battled against Waiters. Waiters went bonkers from three, knocking down about 4 in a row and proceeded to throw up the dynasty sign after each make lol. I was impressed with Kane as well, as he definitely held his own but his team was overmatched that night. I remember hearing that Pitt was after him heavy but his grades sucked at the time, which was one of the main reasons that he ended up at Marshall despite being a high-level talent. Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up landing at Pitt after all.

doesn't he really like to chuck it up? not sure if it would be a good mesh, but i really do think we need to bring in one of these graduated juniors for back court experience. we are scary young and inexperienced.

Watched him a few times a couple of seasons ago. Marshall wasn't loaded with lots of offensive talent, so he had to handle most of the scoring bulk, but I wouldn't necessarily call him a chucker or ball hog. For one year, I don't really see much of a downside in bringing him in.

i totally agree we need to bring someone in.

Wouldn't be a bad pickup at all. If CJ leaves, I would hope they reach out to the Tulane kid, but we could definitely use a backup PG for a year.

With that said, why would he come to SU to be a backup for a year? He could go play at one of the better mid-majors (Butler, VCU, UConn, Creighton, New Mexico, Wichita State, etc), probably earn a starting role, play a lot and have just as much of a chance to make a lengthy NCAA Tourney run. Or he could go to a decent high major programs, play a ton and maybe get a tourney game or two. And he's also from Pittsburgh, and Tra Woodall used up his eligibility, so that might be a good fit. Since he can't shoot from 3, it's a perfect fit.

It just depends on what he's looking for. There's not much info out about that part as the news just came out yesterday. Whether he's a good fit at 'Cuse depends on whether he'd be fine with taking a reduced role. Who knows, if Ennis struggles for whatever reason or happens to get hurt, he still could see more than token backup minutes. We just have to wait for it to play out.

It's now coming out that he essentially got the boot from his coach (LINK), so it sounds like there might have been some attitude issues. I'd still like to know the whole story (he certainly couldn't be complaining about playing time since he averaged something like 35 MPG). Maybe he just wants a change of scenery, but if it's something SU's staff doesn't want any part of, especially as it brings in a lot of younger players who may be impressionable, then I couldn't really blame them.

For any program it's all about doing their due diligence and finding out what the deal is with this guy. If it's nothing serious then he should be a solid one year addition for somebody. If several shaky stuff amount, then obviously teams will stay away.
