turbo zone bocadoug style.
This is the rarely seen Trunk Monkey Zone. When in use, the full-court defence becomes the Turbo-and-Ozone Press (TOP for short).
Rebounding isn't as good. But Fab and BMK are a lot quicker to the ball than AO and Rick were. They are lighter on their feet and do a better job overall of guarding that lower foul line area.Perimeter defense may be better. Not convinced about the inside defense, rebounding, or defense of the high post.
I wish Rautins/Waiters could ahve been at the top together, that would have been a show. That being said, I think MCW has some serious potential up there, he seems as quick as anyone we've had in a while and he's 6'6 with long arms. You can definitely make the argument. We get a ton of steals this year, but Rautins was such a force that teams couldn't pass the ball around the top of the zone after he stole seven passes against UNC. I think we block more shots, and we probably have better defensive depth though. Rebounding is still a concern.
I have no idea what you just said.

The two teams are similar in their unselfish play, passing up a good shot for a better one. That's what first caught my attention about the 09-10 team and made it so endearing. Both teams had aggressive defenders who had the talent, size and mindset to play the Zone to its full potential, but there seem to be slight differences.
The Wes-and-Andy team's version of defense forced bad shots, assuming the opposing team could get off any shots at all. They prevented passes and they were experts in turning the shot clock into a weapon (my favorite alleged quote from the 09-10 team was by the Albany player who said "Coach, I can't even see the high post!") Meanwhile, AO and Rick played a beautiful 2-man game underneath, boosting both their shooting percentages into the stratosphere.
This year's team signature is their "Steal and Deal" defense. They pick you clean and leave your bones to dry in the sun. They have the depth to press, and the talent to shred the press. They might not be as intimidating underneath, but on defense they're a charge waiting to happen and that pays dividends, too. The big difference (potentially) is in shooting, but I'm still waiting for them to get warmed up before making that assessment. Instead of Rautins, Wes, and a too-erratic Scoop and Triche, this year's team could have solid 3-pt strokers in James, Dion, Scoop, Triche, and KJ -- and CJ's mid-range jumper looks to be reliable, too. That's some heavy artillery that 09-10 never approached!
I don't think they have that much more gellin' to do to surpass 09-10, and here I thought 2 years ago we might never see a team as good as that one for quite a while. It's nice to be wrong.-VBOF

SWC this is 90% correct. In the following years the term Trunk Monkey Press was co-opted by the Boehiem haters to further the idea that he only makes coaching decisions out of catastrophic emergency need and that his coaching is so poor that the press displays the frenzied lack of real discipline so common in most trunk monkeys. Monkeys with more refined talents typically find better work as organ grinders, truck driver side-kicks, etc.
Since the zone has been long named "tavern league" by said JB supporters and I took their name for the press, I also had to give it a new name; the "turbo and ozone." I will be much more impressed if someone unlocks that reference!
