That's the defensive backfield, LBs and DL. All 3 were equally bad.

Most complained about the LBs and DBs. But the DL got blown off the ball all day. Got no push at all against the run and was pushed around which allowed Mack to get a head of steam before he had to make a cut and made more arm tackles miss. Also allowed their OL to get to the 2nd level at times and making brush blocks.

Bad for all 3 units.

I didn't get to watch the game yet (thank God). Listened to 2nd half in my car until turning the channel when USF got to 45. Anyhow, it sounded like the D wasn't just bad physically but also mentally.

It also sounded like a Syracuse player was injured on every single play.

I think the most telling for me was when our RB was trying to go around the corner but had to move back a couple of yards on his run as the OL got pushed back into his path. That's not the way the play was designed...

Yes the OL was bad also. People clamor for more of this position or that position. But we need to keep recruiting for both lines. That's where games are won or lost usually.

Agreed this was the worst effort i can recall since Shafer has been here The defense didn't play physical at all.

Steven is a stud. He was the only one we really kept a close eye on and he played well. The fact he is a true freshman is a good thing for the future of this defense. He gets better every week.

The front 4, nobody in particular, got little push. They killed us outside, but they also beat us going inside before cutting it outside. None of the 3 defensive units played well at all today. It happens.

Watch the game again. Many the rushing totals were made because the DL didn't win their assignments. Seriously.

Our DEs crash pretty often in general which puts a lot of pressure on our LBs to get out there. IMO it is a weak point in our scheme. I forgot which game it was a few years ago but a team exploited us over and over again. Technically it isn't a scheme issue, if you have the talent at LB it works. The problem is these at 20 year old kids. The same can be said about our secondary and their responsibilities.
