Defense, defense, defense

Been doing that. Taking notes. Spread sheeting the entire defense. And, you're wrong.

Look, I love my kids and root for them in all their sports...which is why
I give you credit for being active on a board like this.

But to come on and essentially state your son did well and the rest of the D is the issue is not correct...and irritating for fans who root for #72 AND 85 other guys.

Go Cuse.

107 yards to the right side, both run and pass. 188 yards to the left side, both run and pass. 101 yards up the middle, run only. On the edges, both the left and right side, they gained roughly 300 yards. Up the gut? 100 yards.

Steven blew one play that directly resulted in a 25 yard TD run at 13:15 in the 3rd quarter. Talked to him about it, too. He didn't hear the change in the play call. Subsequently, he didn't shift to his left, as he should've. Got his ass reamed by Daoust, rightfully so.

But to say that the front 4 played horribly? Nope.

Good breakdown and insight on that play as to why.

The defense had a bad day and the team as a whole was flat.

Here's to whipping the Hoos next week.

This defense is predicated on DL penetration - we didn't get it at all yesterday. That unit definitely underperformed and I doubt they will grade very well this week.

It's an extremely young group and will get better as the season goes on. Hopefully they can learn from this and put it behind them.

I understand your position here. That being said, a lot of those off tackle runs or "outside runs" happened because the offensive line was able to get to the second level with ease at times yesterday. It was on everyone.

They'll learn from this and move on. We have such a young front four and game like this is bound to happen. Get it out of the way and move on.

A lot of those were screens and sweeps. Also, front 4 was probably tasked with attempting to contain the QB. Will go back and look, but I suspect it was more the DBs unable to shed blocks from RBs/WRs, and extremely poor tackling.

The only problem I could see from the D-line yesterday was both ends collapsing quite frequently only to get run around on sweeps (over and over again)

Every single WR screen success that I saw happened when they had one more WR than we had defenders, I know this cause I was yelling at the TV before each time it happened (those who sat around me during the ND game last year can attest to this as well HA!) The last time I saw a defensive set up as poor as this one for covering WR screens was indeed the aforementioned ND game.

The D tackles and Franklin where the only bright spots I could find on the entire Defense yesterday and that has nothing to do with who does or doesn't post on this board.
