What an atrocious performance. I was hoping last week we saw improvements and knowing Steve was hurt the defense would really show up and pick up the offense in front of a sold out home crowd. Extremely disappointed that they had no answers. No hustle, terrible angles, no pass rush, and no answer for their running game, which wasn't their strong suit. Very lackluster performance. Did Grant play? I didn't notice him after a great performance vs Clemson. Samuels had a bad day. Kerr had a worse day. DL basically just takes up space. Bryant and Reese have been busts for the most part. Terrible effort knowing they were going to be needed. Talent needs to be significantly upgraded on that side of the ball, including the Robinson. Let him coach the DL and have him on the trail. Unfortunately, I don't know what he brings to the table? Defense has no identity.

Defense has thrown up some stinkers under Fran but IMO this one hurts the most. They all looked like they have given up and with our backup QB this is the one time we needed our defense to step up for an entire game and it was just opposite a complete no show from anyone on that side of the ball.

The defense (or lack thereof) is the biggest concern after this game.

Not gonna throw Collins under the bus on his first full game, but the defense was remedial in all facets (sans Delauriers).

I agree with Fran when he said our D, O and S were complementary bad. Every unit played poor. D was really bad but O did nothing to help. The concern was it look like the D gave up in the second half.

Someone needs to start questioning Nick Williams and our defensive staff. Our defensive line play has been putrid for two years. They can’t stop the run or pressure the quarterback. They might be able to recruit and build relationships with players, but someone needs to start questioning their ability to scheme and coach. They all seem to be getting a free pass. Someone at a press conference needs to start asking Fran some tough defensive questions.

NFL OLs blow assignments. College OLs do it quite often. By default we should have more TFLs or Sacks. It is crazy that we are 125th in TFL per game and 123rd in Sacks. That includes having played Colgate and UConn.

You want Erob coaching DL?

A lot of it is scheme and technique. The players are mostly in the wrong position most of the time. And even if they are they don’t make the play.

Reese is a good example. He is clearly a backside
Pass rusher not a run stopper but in today’s RPO game you have to be able to do both. So watch Reese set the edge against Duke. I’m waiting…still watching?? Yeah that’s right he didn’t. Nor did the other edge allowing Duke to bounce everything outside.

Secondly then we want to “pressure”. Watch where it comes from. Our LBs straight rushing the middle leaving all the dbs on an island. Also ever notice our guys stop rushing as soon as the qb moves one way or the other. It’s crazy

Hoping that our D would show up was kind of like hoping for a winning lotto ticket. Or even hoping for a ticket that didn't open your wallet, take out all the cash, and kick you in the groin.

Under Fran, our D has been poor and that was even before yesterday's train wreck.

I don't recall how we ranked nationally last year or this year but it was not good. In addition, last year, we finished 14th out of 17 ACC in defense, and THIS WAS ON A 10-WIN TEAM! A team that won 10 games was still one of the worst defensive teams in the conference. ERob should be sending McCord NIL $$$ for life.

Prior to yesterday's stinker, we still ranked 14th in the conference on defense this year and THAT INCLUDED GAMES VS COLGATE AND UCONN.! Thanks to yesterday's fiasco, we now rank 16th out of 17 ACC teams on defense.

We might say that the offense didn't do the D any favors yesterday, and while that's true, what about all of last year? What about the games this year with Angeli? It kind of throws any excuse for the D right out the window.

We all hope that Rickie or somebody can improve the offense from yesterday, but even if they do, we still have whatever Saturday morning cartoon festival is going on over on the defensive side of the ball.
