Defensive Stats: 34 points given up per game...

That was the defensive call we were in though.

From SB's perspective they had a good play call for what we were in then they executed it to perfection.

MPB crashing might have been his assignment but Diabate getting knocked to the ground is a bigger problem. He takes himself out of the play entirely and also causes Spruill to go down to the ground. Diabate needs to take on the blocker better but it's tough when you're a tiny MLB. Though in that play the guard doesn't even steamroll him, he puts his head down and lunges at Diabate below the waist. How does Diabate allow that contact to even happen?

You can see in that play that Davis was being held by #69. A missed call by the officials helped along with some good blocks and a few missed tackles.

yes Davis also gets held.

It seems they just have inordinately short arms. Imagine a TRex trying to tackle a Triceratops.

Like VELOCIRAUTINS!

Look at the replay, the TB tells the QB what to do.

How long before Lyn is starting and Anderson is on the bench? Anderson got burned on the first play and lost 2-3 battles last week against USC albeit against some very good WR's, but I still like Lyn more when he's out there.
When Keon stops making bonehead plays at critical times in the game maybe he will start.

We outgained Northwestern and Stony Brook by a 2-1 margin and Barkley, Woods and Lee by 10 yards. Obviously the offense had something to do with that but I'd say the defesne has been looking pretty good. The running yards vs. USC were because we were overcommitting to the pass.

Since Shafer stepped foot on campus his D has kept us in games. A lot of them we didn't even deserve to be in. I have more faith in Shafer than anyone else earning a salary in the athletics department.

He hasn't been perfect by any means but has shown the most consistency week in week out, without a doubt.

Not last year.

Yes. The right side is MPB, DDavis and obviously Diabate in the middle with the tackle on that side in a rotation. It really seemed like every SB run was to that side.

On that Maysonet play we were in a 5/2. Davis lining up at end got kicked out to the sideline by the tackle. MPB stunted inside toward the center. Diabate filled the hole but got taken down by a pulling guard and in turn Spruill got caught in that block and tripped over Diabate. You could then drive a truck through that hole when Diabate go run over. Maysonet hurdled the DB and then Wilkes who the knows what he was thinking. He bumped into Maysonet coming down from the hurdle. Wilkes should've made that tackle right there.

It appeared that Wilkes (#28) thought they were playing touch football. I love the way he flies all over the field, but on that play he had the opportunity to deliver a hit and seemed to avoid contact.

I'll take a bonehead play over 5 TDs allowed in the last two weeks.

How many reps did Lynch get Saturday and has Coker played at all? I loved the energy Welsh brought into the game and this defense has more depth than I can remember in a long time.
