Mike Lupica isn't impressed with Florida State. He said today that if you put Auburn in the ACC they would have rolled up the same numbers the Noles did and he's like to see what FSU would do playing an SEC schedule.

He has a point. But look at Ohio State if you want to see a team puffed up by playing in a weak league. Florida State is the first major college team to go undefeated through the regular season and win all it's games by double figures since the 1995 Nebraska team, which was pretty legit.

Which brings up a memory from the inner recesses of my mind. I recall Mike Lupica before the 1996 Sugar Bowl game saying "I'm not buying into this whole Nebraska thing."

Florida state 50
Auburn 14

FSU is straight-up dominant.

Nebraska played Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. It wasn't just Lupica, more than half the analysts were picking Florida in that game.

My memory of that was of Florida running an empty backfield offense that provided the QB minimal protection...and Nebraska just blitzed constantly. They had the athletes to expose the weakness in Spurrier's offense. I thought of that game when Syracuse brought all kinds of pressure on Rutgers with Hogue, and Shady couldn't adjust. Those two games to me showed that neither Spurrier or Shady have what it takes to be NFL head coaches - the ability to adapt on the fly isn't there.

Lupica is a Utica born, BC educated dweeb.

It's been obvious since mid-season that FSU was one of, if not the, best teams in the country, and might be one of the best in a decade.

I would love to know how much that dork actually watches. My guess is not that much.

Two very good teams.

But I'll go with the battle-hardened Auburn Tigers by 10 points. Rolling over weaker competition doesn't adequately prepare a team for these kind of pitched battles.

They should start engraving Florida State on the BCS Championship trophy and leave enough digits so they can fill in the double digit winning victory margin.

i made a ton of money on that game.. Neb had dominate Dline guys and could run the ball on the FL D. too many people focused on how FL looked against bad D's

Thanks for the correction on the bowl. Shame on me for not bothering to look it up. Oh Lord

How do we know the SEC is great. Everyone is rated top 25 at the start of the season. They play no one of consequence OOC and rarely on the road. In conference, the losing team moves up in the poll for the loss.
If bowl games are the measure, the old BE was pretty good.

Well, you can watch their games. The speed, the size, the athleticism.

I'm sorry their dominance and perceived media bias irks you. But betting against them is a bad idea.

The SEC is way better any other Conference. After watching the B1G Championship game I am more convinced then ever. Alabama, LSU and Auburn would slice and dice both OSU and MSU based on speed alone.

Forecasting an FSU beat down of Auburn is an exercise in wishful thinking.

As to the old Big East ... have you noticed what has happened to WVU in the Big 12?

The SEC is great, no doubt, but let's not get carried away. Texas A&M and Mizzou were decent Big 12 teams who immediately have been major players in that conference.

Florida State vs an SEC team who had improbable finishes to make it that far. Where have I heard that before? Oh, 1998.

Auburn is just scary because of the Malzahn factor. Maybe Texas will scoop him up for $10M per year before the game. But that guy, just knows how to coordinate an offense.

I still think FSU is a couple TDs better. Auburn won't stop FSU, their not much on defense. FSU has a better shot at stopping Auburn.

The best part will be if Auburn loses by a few TDs and then claims that FSU's QB shouldn't have been eligible for the game. That's a wide ranging fan base on the intellectual food chain, so you know that plenty of them will say it.

Carried away? Carried Away? Me?

Read the other posts on this thread almost guaranteeing a beat down of Auburn by FSU. I'd suggest that's who is getting "carried away".

I see a tight game --- and FSU does have some fantastic horses. And my rule is that it tight contests its the team that have been in them before that have the advantage.

I.m surprised at the success of Mizoo. But Texas A&M is a huge school with a near lunatic fan base in a football crazy State with great recruiting base.

This is what I remember about that game. I watched this in a bar in South Carolina meandering back from the Gator Bowl with my yet to be bride.

Now, a lot here are saying it will be a blowout for FSU, but #14 for Auburn has a lot of Tommie Frazier in him.

I for one think it winds up as exciting as USC-Texas in 2005
