Deja Vu

I.m surprised at the success of Mizoo. But Texas A&M is a huge school with a near lunatic fan base in a football crazy State with great recruiting base.

I understood folks who questioned how good the Aggies would be in the SEC. They didn't exactly light the world on fire in the Big 12 going 132-89-1 in 18 seasons.

1994 10-0-1 (probation)
1995 9-3
1996 6-6
1997 9-4
1998 11-3
1999 8-4
2000 7-5
2001 8-4
2002 6-6
2003 4-8
2004 7-5
2005 5-6
2006 9-4
2007 7-6
2008 4-8
2009 6-7
2010 9-4
2011 7-6

I still think their 2012 team will be the exception going forward. This year with Manziel they lost to Alabama, Auburn, and LSU in their own division and more often than not they'll be looking up the standings at those three schools.

Kiribivore made my point. aTm was largely mediocre for years and years before the joined the SEC. Granted Manziel would have caused them to light up the Big XII as well, but that's kind of the point. One supremely talented guy shot them to the top of the best conference in football. So the SEC is great, and, more importantly, every year it's had 1-2 teams at the top that were the best in the country. But the deification of the league is a little over the top.

if that exact same Auburn Mizzou game had happened between Mizzou and Baylor in the Big 12, your typical "SEC" chant boob would totally dismiss it.

Same for the Alabama aTm game this year.

Mike Lupica isn't impressed with Florida State. He said today that if you put Auburn in the ACC they would have rolled up the same numbers the Noles did and he's like to see what FSU would do playing an SEC schedule.
Anytime the crux of your argument is a hypothetical you aren't exactly discussing things from a position of strength.

lots of hand wringing over teams like aTm and OSU firing RC Slocum and John Cooper. Make a bad coaching change and you never hear the end of it. make a good one and no one ever mentions it

Anytime the guy making the argument is Mike Lupica it's really not worth anyone's time.

:)

He's a contrarian who takes positions to start controversies and call attention to himself. He's not as bad as Skip Bayliss who does nothing but that but it is something he does from time to time. Maybe Auburn will upset Florida State and make him look good but he didn't say what he said out of respect for Auburn.

Will Burt get to play?

Maybe in the fourth quarter.
Unfortunatley this is the Burt that would get to play now.

By the way, wouldn't it be cool if you actually could be # "X"?

How do we know the SEC is great. Everyone is rated top 25 at the start of the season. They play no one of consequence OOC and rarely on the road. In conference, the losing team moves up in the poll for the loss.
If bowl games are the measure, the old BE was pretty good.
other than the b12 converts, they all usually play top tier ooc games. At least as many as any other conference so that point goes away. oregon, texas, v tech, clemson, florida st, oklahoma st, wisconsin, etc all show up on sec schedules this year/next year. the old big east was pretty good in bowls because they played teams ranked much lower in their respective conference in just about every bowl game...and/or because the team they're playing missed out on a bigger opportunity and underperformed.

Bingo on the reason behind the Big East's bowl "successes".
